Car audio. Help! Petrol head EDUGEEKERS!

. I have spent a fortune on upgrading a Clio's head unit speakers, subwoofer installed 6x9's and to be honest I can't tell the difference anymore with the setup I have now that cost me £40 apposed to £380

What other people have said. Bear in mind you can also get a 'high level input' to RCA converter, which will also provide you with a remote switch on for the amp if you get the right one. They aren't beautiful as they're basically a ratio step down convertor, so the higher the volume the greater the input level to the amp. But they're sound for what you're after. That would allow you to take a speaker level output and send to the amp. Bear in mind also some amps have this built in.

 

I'd do the head unit first though, then the door speakers. Only when you've done that stick in a sub if it's not enough bass.

Don't know whats been said already but;

 

Head unit first. Then speakers. Then if you feel the need, an amp. Subs, no, unless your GF is 17 and likes flying round car parks with McDonalds trays under her rear wheels... To get a good sound out of subs you are talking a few hundred quid easy, and that's before you look at upgrading the power system to handle them. Plus you lose boot space which could otherwise be used to transport beer from shop to home.

 

The money it would take to do subs right you could plough into a cracking set of speakers and amp.

Yep, check the link I posted, about £6 from Ebay.

 

However, I would trawl the scrapyards and get a genuine Peugeot one. They have a built in anti-slip mat. You should be able to pick one up easily enough as the bog standard 307s - "Rapier" & "S" had a single stereo, either a radio cassette or radio & single CD.

OK, so I'm liking the look of this, Pioneer DEH-X3500Ui:

I know it maybe not one that has been suggested, but you can change the colour to the Peugeot dash orange... (OCD much)! It also has loads of great reviews... Honest!

Bluetooth for the phone isn't much of a concern, most of her trips are short to and from work, any longer journeys she's using the phone as sat-nav anyway, or she would be with me...

 

So, all I need is that and this:

Does it matter if it's a 'Dynamic Sounds' cable and not a 'Connects2' one? What is that other little 3.5mm cable for?!

Some threads on the Peugeot forum suggesting swapping yellow and red wires for some sort of standby live to keep radio presets and turning off with the ignition?

That would be all you need. I dont think that matters too much. Connect2 are "Big" in that sort of stuff.

Yep - I found this as otherwise the headunit forgets your settings. Easy to do though.

Ah thanks, couldn't really work it out as some cables start CTS (which I thought stood for Connects2) and some start with DS (Dynamic Sounds).

It seems the picture of what they're advertising in the first - CONNECTS2 CTSPG006, is the cable set that ensures the steering wheel control, but then in the other - DYNAMIC SOUNDS DS-PG006 (and from what I've seen from the back of the unit), it's the little 3.5mm cable that does that. That isn't shown in the first picture, I presume due to the fact you can add 'any' free patch lead to the order. So it looks like the main picture in the first one is the wiring for the steering wheel control but it isn't, that's just the power/speaker wires (?) and it's the little 'patch' lead that you add to the order that actually does the control and that isn't shown. Looks like in the second one they've labelled it as DS-PG006 as they've bundled the power/speaker wires and the correct Panasonic steering wheel control together. So confusing, I hate being a n00b

 

Anyway, looks like the aerial lead is standard and the 3.5mm jack goes in the little black hole for the steering wheel control...

 

 

Edit: The little 3.5mm hole says W/R so I hope that's something along the lines of Wired Remote, glad it doesn't say AUX IN/LINE IN or anything lol ...

Finally got around to updating this post!

 

As you can see, the stereo is a different model from the ones I was looking at, due to the fact that I took the GF to choose for herself.

The fitting was as straightforward as suggested, however I did find a huge amount of space at the back and the fact that the stereo is only really 1 1/2 din helped. I think I would have struggled otherwise as the connecting cables were quite bulky. I also did need an aerial adaptor, but I went back to Halfords to chat with the guy about fitting and dropped a hint about 'how I wasn't told it might be required', anyway he chucked it in free...

 

Oh yeah, the important bit... Sounds great! Thanks for everyones help in this thread!

It's pocket money for what it is, but you get what you pay for in car audio. Expect compromises aplenty (including crashes, lockups etc judging by the OS!) but may be worth a punt. I always steered clear of no-name Chinese stuff, but an equivalent JVC or similar is closer to £1000...

My thoughts exactly. Have a read a few reviews and it does seem to be cheap looking but good functionality. All the units come from the same factory in China and are then badged by Erisin and others but underneath are all the same.

 

As you say you get what you pay for. Might take a punt.

Hi. I have the ES966D. The USB isn't working. On the rear usb doesn't read my stick and on the front it reads a stick but that's all. On the Erisin site it states that you can start the unit with the brand of your car, thats not true!!! Also the app's cannot be positioned on another place, so thats also not true. Erisin doesn't response on technical questions. Buying one gave a response very fast, but technical questions is too much it seams. For the rest its a good unit.

Please help! I bought a 2DIN Android radio head unit, but I don't know where to connect the Key1 and Key2 wires from the three wires! There is a gray-blue and a brown wire, but no matter how I connect them, nothing happens . Canbus is set for Peugeot 206. What could I have done wrong?

I have to say, at least more modern cars which have industry standards (and wireing harnesses) make life a lot simpler!
