Is anyone on here providing IT work experience - particularly for uni students?

Our HT thinks it would be a good idea as everyone benefits. We're snowed under atm and an extra body would ease the pressure, and they'd get invaluable work experience as a reward.

Even just half a day a week would be beneficial.

Do you think any of our local unis would be interested if we approached them?

Obviously, they'd need to be CRB'd etc.

Unis would generally be more interested in a 48 week sandwich placement in my experience. But some students may be interested in the opportunity on an informal basis aside from their course.

I imagine they would, try e-mailing the careers or employment departments of the local unis (most uni's have a department for helping student into work and all that stuff).

It rather depends on the university, the course and the person. "University" these days covers ex-politechnics, which might be the kind of place where the students would be more interested in on-going work experience. A regular half-day a week would have to be worked in around lectures and assignments - you might do better to try and get someone in during holiday times to do larger "projects" (going round all classrooms servicing equipment, etc). Also, for student of the kind of calibure where you can just leave them to get on with stuff without too much assistance, it might be expecting a bit much for them to work for free. A school's IT department is good work experience for later work in a university environment (I wish I'd had the practical experience I now have before doing my masters, I'd have actually been some use in the lab), but a good computer science / computing / etc student could be making money elsewhere, and you'll have to pay at least the going market rate.

Around here it is quite common - many of the schools have the odd uni student for a short time per week. I think they would bite your hand off

I think my predecessor at one of my schools was a student
