Hi all,

My friend has asked me what he should get for his 14 year old son.

His son is very geeky and likes baking and we have often had very geeky chats with him understanding everything! He has just gone and set up a raspberry pi as a mail server and a DCHP server in one.

The son says that he has everything he needs (high spec pc and nexus 7). He does not know what he wants!

Any ideas what my friend should get his son? The budget is £150-200 so it rules out any games consoles

@hawc you can almost make a JABcopter for almost that kind of money, I think @TwoZeroAlpha managed to get it around the £200-£250 mark, but its a hobby that does not have to be done all at once...he can build it up bit by bit while learning the ins and outs...

Check page 15 for TwoZeroAlpha's parts he will purchase.

If he is as good as you say and got a good geek streek in him then he has probably already thought and dreamed about the idea ;)

A Dremel multi-use power tool, every 14 year old should have one. Plus you can get him a box of accesory bits to go with it if you're buying him a present too.

The Arduino kit sounds exactly right. Supplement it with an Ethernet shield and he can get that and the Pi talking.

Lego Mindstorms might be a good bet, but is over budget.
