That's so bad it's almost funny. Wonder how much of that is actually the truth. We'd be nackered, we've far too diverse a staffing here! :D

 

Feel sorry for the teacher involved if that is the honest truth though, shocking.

That was in the local paper the other day.

 

We must stamp out this culture of cultural diversity.

 

Tins of flesh coloured paint, dvd's of My Fair Lady to get the speach sorted and everyone wearing Black suit's and Bowlers or Floral Tea Dresses.. ... And lunch should only ever be cottage pie.

I can confirm this does, and indeed, with me, did happen. I used to be a teacher, and during my teacher training, (I won't mention where,) I was asked to attend vocal coaching sessions with an opera singer, in order to remove my broad, Yorkshire Accent, as it was felt that this was preventing my instructions being understood by some members of the classes I taught. Needless to say, I now have a nondescript semi midland accent, of which I am neither fond, nor proud of, unlike my original one.

I can see it initially being difficult for pupils to understand someone with an entirely different accent but after a week or two they'd probably understand them just as well as any other, the only real difficulty would come if they were using more localised words and phrases. At the same time the teachers accent would gradually change to suit the area.

 

Sounds like the school are lashing out after being put into special measures, I'd hope they'd be able to identify her accent as an issue before the inspection if it really was one then again they are in special measures so things obviously aren't all right anyway.

No, "Northern" isn't a race, you're correct. But why is it any different? I just can't think of another "ism" for it.

It's the same to me as it's a human being from a different part of the world (or same country even). Anyone discriminating against someone else needs slapping let alone for the sound of their voice.

Both my parents are northern (Preston + Perth), When I was growing up I tended to speak like them and all through school I was asked where I came from, When I said it was same town as I lived in they were confused,

 

My accent is slowly becoming a bit less broad but still sometimes people don't understand me.

 

Ive only lived in the depths of Kent.

95% northern - Somewhere around Middlesborough. That's a touch too far north (and east for that matter) of Liverpool, but better than being a southern softie, eh? ;)
