Changing colour of the cursor!

Hi Guys and girls,

 

I have a member of staff here that is constantly changing his cursor style on his computer and it's really starting to bug me now, is there any way I can remove access to this on his computer?

 

he is local admin on his own computer so it's not as easy as I thought

1. Why does he have admin privileges?

2. What does it matter if he changes his cursor? Is it affecting anyone else?

You can set a group policy to hide specific control panel options:

 

User Config --> Admin templates --> Control Panel --> Hide specified control panel items

 

Set that to hide the mouse control panel, set it against his PC and local admin or not, he won't be able to change any mouse settings

 

However,

 

Why go to the trouble? Mouse settings are a per-user setting and unless he's using something NSFW or is downloading spyware laden cursor packs, this seems rather petty to me. Other people who use the computer shouldn't be affected unless they're using his login details.

he does this purely to wind us up and likes to brag about it etc... He is local admin for some of the software to work/update properly and he changes it to some really obscure styles so when I go fix his computer (which is a couple of times a day) I can hardly see where the cursor is

Simple solution to that. Each time you go to fix his computer, set his wallpaper to My Little Pony, Spongebob, Tellytubbies or something equally puerile

Sounds like a much bigger problem than an IT one to me.

Which software needs that access? We may be able to advise of workarounds - I don't have a single thing here (and there are many legacy packages) that need that permission level.

It's our own Software designed in house, it's ran off a SQL server and when we do some adjustments and updates, they need to be in a admin account to do so

Could you reduce the access privileges then just authenticate via UAC when you need elevation (right click Run As)? Or does the user themselves need to have this access?
