I am looking to install one, Ive dabbled a bit in alarms but this ones a bit different to what I have touched before.

Im looking to get something Texecom based. At home in a tool box Ive got x2 Texecom Premier Grade 3 LCD Keypads. I can get hold of panels dirt cheap too (looking at a premier 24 on ebay).

Debating whether to get a panel with built in keypad such as the Veritas range, or put these keypads up, get the control panel and buy the PIR's and the sounder box. The joys with the Premier I suppose is I can incorporate Fire alarm function within the system and have battery backup! (I believe anyway)

What has everyone else got ? Anyone installed one of these Premier systems ?

Cheers

Chris.

I Installed a Texecom Veritas Excell in my old house,

Looking at either another Excell or a Premier for this house.

Don't go below an R8+ as they don't have a com port for programming.

Note the Premier 24 is not a full 24 Zone unit but an 8 zone with Remote expanders.

All units are battery backed as they have to be.

Watch out on second hand panels, they may have the BOSS engineeer code or the NVRAM locked and these can make the pannel worthless.

Veritas does support RKP's LCD or LED or both depending on model but will not support the Premier RKP's

Given that you have the RKP's for a premier i would go with that & hide the system unit out of site.

Stick a Raspberry Pi in with some sticky back plastic and a door sensor:getmecoat:

Added to that, you could get the camera module for it and do some cheap CCTV.

There are also 2 main premier versions "standard" and "elite" with different overall specifications.

Do you mean the Raspberry Pi Model A and the Raspberry Pi Model B?

I have the Proximity Pad RKP's :) and ahve also just been told by the lad opposite me that he has a Premier 24 Control Panel in his garage that is still in box. He bought it for his business but never fitted it. I can have that so thats nice of him, hes got some Prox Readers too that I can have. All I need now is PIR's which are cheap enough and a sounder.

Then figure out how im going to install it.......

Google and you will find the manual.

If you have pets then Tex do special PIR's you can also set double nock and all sorts. Been 10 years since I did the Excel but using the com programmer was easy peasy... Texe actualy sent the serial cable out to me for free!!

I think I will be going the Premier route although the RKP's are a lot more expensive..

Actually the RKP's arnt that bad on ebay, you can reset them easy enough too. I do have pets and have been looking at the PETwise PIR's. Not sure how they work though ? Id set the alarm before I went to bed with the dog in the kitchen ?

Yeah we had the petwise. I think they have built in double knock and can determine a large object over a smaler one.. But I realy can't remember.

I would not realy trust a PI, it would cost more in the end too.
