Heyo

It's me ma's birthday soon, and i'm unsure of what present to buy her. So far i've got her a babyliss hair thing-a-ma-bob which came to £80, a card and £300 in it, a collagen light box thing-a-ma-bob which came to £330.

However, i'd like to buy something that would be ICING on the cake.

Do any of you have an idea what would be a great pressie?

Thanks in advance!

I got my Mummy a tablet for her birthday, just a Google Nexus 7" but she loves it, she has recently (in the past year) discovered facebook and the rest of the internet (much to my dismay) so the natural step up form the laptop was her to have one of these.

She does love it, but took her a while (we even got a car mount for it and she uses it as a massive sat nav)

I have my 4 contracts which i'm paying for. 3x £40 and 1x £44 3 Samsung S4's and 1 HTC One. Ma's, Pa's, Mine, and Brothers. Phones are out of the question lol

Or go on Groupon or Living Social Deals or Wowcher and get her an "experience" of some kind.

Blimey, you have spent a lot of money on her - I get annoyed if my children spend more than about £30 on me :)

@Sunnyknight, son you have got some great stuff there for your ma, think small for that extra thing ;) Get yourself into one of those alternative therapy shops. They have fabulous little gem things not a lot of money but it is the meaning behind them. ;)

(Some) Women tend to go nuts for either products from Lush (you can get some really good gift sets at various prices all gift wrapped!) or that Soap & Glory stuff from Boots. Again, they do gift sets, or boots usually have it on 3 for 2.

Now there's a sweeping statement!

Personally I'd rather go for a ride on a RIB around Southampton Water (as I did for my birthday) than have some smelly stuff that will probably make my skin itch...:)

My Mums 60th in December, she's just been away on holiday so we said she could have her present early and we got her a Kindle and filled it with loads of her favourite authors. She loves it, has read so much more that normal (Dad says it was great, peace and quiet...)

Of course this means she'll have to get another present on her actual birthday...

I thought my family were cheap when I read the OP... Glad to see it's just Sunny having more money than sense. [seriously, nearly £700 and he's still adding to it?]

Also, my mum kind of freaked out when I bought her a DS and a couple of games, was about £130 back in the day. [she now has more DS games than I do and has borrowed a couple of mine.]

I swear he prints his own money!!! ;)

Anyway, as he will no doubt tell you, "Haters gonna hate".

And there is so much hate...

He literally falls asleep at work and inhales compressed air, but appears to be on so much more than I am... I pretty much spend as much as I earn once I've paid all my bills.

I couldn't help but read this and think of the scene in Snatch with Mickey on about the caravan.

"It's nah feh me, it's feh me maaa"

Why not a nice piece of jewellery? Something she'll be able to keep for her lifetime. Or even those places that do professional photos? One for just her, one for all of you as a family together? A picture speaks a thousand words sometimes :)

I think £300 is VERY nice, however not very personal for your mum. So this icing on the cake NEEDS to be personal. Hard to help people with these sort of gifts though I'm afraid!

My mum would love something like a nice framed photo of Me, bro & sis.

@Rawns @X-13 Haters gonna hate! lol

However, on a more serious note, @X-13, i have more sense than money. My mother (we've worked it out a good 100 times over 8 years) has spent around £50,000 on me and the same amount on my brother (rounded up) since we were born. A few thousand is pittance. I like to treat my parents as they treated me. They've spoiled me silly, and still do!

Anyway, the idea of a picture frame with the whole family has been done tons of times. Seeing as my pa has also worked since the age of 12 in hard labour, i was thinking more along the lines of a cruise for a few weeks? Around the Mediterranean or something? Has anyone ever been on one? I think they'd enjoy a nice long break from work, and just relaxing 24/7.

@TBlax As far as jewlery goes, i think i'd go overboard. What i was 18, i bought my ma a £800 gold necklace from Hsamuel. Now i'd buy a lot more, just to make sure she's well off, so speaking.

@witch I was thinking about a similar idea. I just don't know what i'd..... get?

Does she have any hobbies, or something close to her that you could put towards?

My mum loves photography and also has a lot of old pictures of her wedding, and of her mum/dad and her nan/grandad - so this year I managed to grab some of them, get them touched up, and put on canvas for her. Was a nice touch, and she loved them.

Currently trying to get hold of Happymeal Mk2 so we can both get a picture together in uniform for Christmas for her (She doesn't have a picture of us together in uniform after 6-7 years... :S).

Maybe she also has a hobby she really enjoys?

Rather than buy her something else how about doing something like making her a birthday cake? Or if a cake is too big, make her some biscuits or something?

Hobbies... gardening or watching soaps. We have every channel on sky, so we're set there. Our garden is... well, in ALMOST tip top condition.

She also likes going shopping, which i hope the £300 will cover lol

As for birthday cakes or baking or cooking i'm shizzle at. So i'm screwed lol

^This.

Anyone can just buy stuff. It takes effort to actually make something.

Agreed. I always bake birthday cakes for the wife, not only because I love baking, but as it feels more personal then going out and buying a pre-made cake. :)

Again, i can't bake worth.... I'm no good in the kitchen. Give me a microwave and a frozen meal. I'm the boss of 'cooking' those.

I'm still unsure what to do for a final pressie :(

Cake mixes aren't hard. Just make sure you don't burn it. [so no wandering off to play GTAV]

It's not the final quality of it that's the point...its the fact you did it yourself and you tried, its worth more than anything in the world to a mother
