Papercut and GPO

Hi,

 

We use Papercut here at our school and I want to move over to using a GPO to deploy our printers instead of using scripts. I need a way to do this by workstation and not user, as teachers and students move around the building a lot. This works fine, except for this method bypasses the print server - therefore bypassing Papercut.

 

Anyone have a solution to this?

 

PS. I've done a quick search and I found an old thread that I didn't want to re open, I didn't quite understand the solution they presented or think that it will be applicable to my situation.

It sounds like you've setup to GPO to point directly at the printers' IP addresses instead of the share on the print server running Papercut.

I hate to say it but in our experience, deploying printers using group policy preferences or by using the printer management tool is a recipe for pain and loathing. I would seriously suggest going back to scripts.

Works absolutely perfectly here and have *never* had a problem with any printer not mapping/mapping incorrectly using GPP. We also use papercut and it works perfectly.

 

Very briefly, printers mapped via GPP (not print management) with item level targetting which targets a mixture of security groups and/or locations

Papercut installed on the print server, gpp points at the shares from there. Just works, wouldn't go back to scripts.
