Marc_Lemar Posted September 19, 2013 Posted September 19, 2013 Good Morning Everyone, We have just had a brief but successful trial of teamviewer and was looking to purchase so I can connect to teachers at home or remotely to the classrooms but due to the company being in Germany they want to charge us 19% VAT which is causing the finance department a bit of a headache as it wont accept it into the new budgeting tool. So what I am looking for is a piece of software that can be installed on the client to enable unattended access and does not require any intervention from the client, I dont mind paying for it rather than options such as VNC etc but would prefer something that is a one off cost and not an ongoing annual charge such as logmein etc. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
6Foot2 Posted September 19, 2013 Posted September 19, 2013 Have a look here as a starting point: Link: TeamViewer Alternatives and Similar Software - AlternativeTo.net
Edu-IT Posted September 19, 2013 Posted September 19, 2013 Centrastage - but that uses VNC at its core. 1

If you supply the VAT number of the school when ordering you will get an invoice without vat.
featured_spectre Posted September 19, 2013 Posted September 19, 2013 Different rules for Germany unfortunately.

mac_shinobi Posted September 19, 2013 Posted September 19, 2013 Log Me IN : https://secure.logmein.com/UK/ ???
JimmyTown Posted September 19, 2013 Posted September 19, 2013 We use logmein, better interface than Teamviewer I feel with more options.
mac_shinobi Posted September 19, 2013 Posted September 19, 2013 They seem to do a remotely anywhere, if you hover over the products menu item --> Remotely Anywhere is one of the options ( RemotelyAnywhere - Remote Access Solutions )
mac_shinobi Posted September 19, 2013 Posted September 19, 2013 There is BOMGAR | Secure Remote Desktop Control with Remote Support Software but I think it costs quite a bit but supports multiple OSes / devices etc
Chaddy Posted September 19, 2013 Posted September 19, 2013 (edited) Seems a lot of people didn't bother reading his thread. ]So what I am looking for is a piece of software that can be installed on the client to enable unattended access and does not require any intervention from the client, I dont mind paying for it rather than options such as VNC etc but would prefer something that is a one off cost and not an ongoing annual charge such as logmein etc. I would recommend Chrome remote desktop, just due to the fact that I don't know any other alternatives other than that Edited September 19, 2013 by Chaddy
SiUK Posted October 18, 2013 Posted October 18, 2013 I've recently managed to deploy UltraVNC via Group Policy - cost was free (other than my time!) I followed a guide by Adam Rush (Deploying UltraVNC within an Active Directory environment using Group Policy - Virtually Impossible) ...But had to carry out some additional steps for firewall exceptions and also to ensure successful Group Policy deployment of the software. I've documented the process I went through on my Blog:- Si's Geeky IT Blog: Deploy UltraVNC through Group Policy (Windows Server 2008) to Windows 32 and 64 Bit Clients Hope this helps!
jonnykewell1 Posted October 18, 2013 Posted October 18, 2013 (edited) How about buying a licence for AB tutor just for your machine and then installing the client across all of the machines at work, then you can take control whenever. As for home you could use http://www.join.me , all they need to do is give you the 9 digit code provided from the client on their machine and you can then gain access to their machine for free. Rawns Posted October 18, 2013 Posted October 18, 2013 (edited) +1 for CentraStage. Affordable and feature packed. Edit: Not a 'one off cost' but still worth a look IMO. Edited October 18, 2013 by Rawns
