OK I have an update, I have just installed SP3 on my 2008 R2 DC and after rebooting the server went into BE to check all was ok, when I went into test\edit credentials everything passes fine except for 2 devices. On closer inspection its testing against the following; 1. C (OS) 2. D (RDX Drive) 3. E (Images Drive) 4. F (Data Drive) 5. System State They all pass ok but then it fails against drives H & K which have the same icon as my RDX drive but they do not show up in BE or in Device or Disk Management in Windows, I am wondering if these 2 rouge disk storage devices are what is upsetting my SDR. Is there anyway in BE 2012 to delete these to eliminate this issue.

Good Morning, Every month I spend a couple of days checking that the SDR Backup will restore ok onto my spare stand alone server, last month everything was fine and worked ok but yesterday I hit a snag the finance server recovered fine but the curric server didn't presenting me with an error message once it had rebooted after the recovery process had completed. I did not think much about it at the time and thought it may have been the SDR disk so burnt another one and left it recovering overnight, but today I have the same error message as follows; Windows could not parse or process the unattend answer file for pass [specialize]. The setting specified in the answer file cannot be applied. The error was detected while processing setting for component [Microsoft-Windows-Shell-Setup]. The only thing that has changed to my knowledge in the last month is the BE2012 was removed and reinstalled and the RDX Disks where re-cattalogued, I am still using the original SDR image and did not create a new one as I didn't think I would need to. Does anyone know what the error is and how to get a round it ?? I have since re-created the SDR boot disk but the error still remains. Many Thanks in Advance.

Has anybody used Cheap Laptops, Ultrabooks, Tablets & Laptop Deals at SaveOnLaptops site before ??? I am after a laptop for my own use and they seem ok and the pricing is also acceptable but I have no experience with them. I see I can pay via paypal which is a bonus I suppose and I can collect from my local ASDA within 72 hours. Having never used them before though I am a little cautious so would like peoples opinions if they know anything about them at all.

I have been trying to get OSX 10.6 Snow Leopard working with Virtualbox but it does not seem to work, I have set up the VM and have turned of EFI, it boots up fine using a file called hackboot 1 but does not seem to like my OSX image. Has anyone else tried doing this and managed to get it working, is there anything special I have to do with the image ??? if I put the disk the image came from in my macbook it works fine. The image is in ISO format and the process seems straight forward but it does not want to work, am I missing something ???

I did try handbrake but the output was multiple mp4 files instead of one complete file.

It has just come to my attention that we appear to have an issue cutting and pasting pictures into word 2013, one of our teachers tried to copy and paste a picture from the web into word but nothing appeared she tried with the mouse and the keyboard shortcuts but still nothing. We then tried to paste the same picture in MS Paint and it worked first go so I know it has to be something to do with Office, has anyone come across this and found a solution ??

At the moment our KS1 Assistant Head had decided he would like some old educational DVD's that he has found backing up to an AVI file so that it can be held on the network and ran from a mapped drive etc. I have checked and there is no copyright infringement as these are from the DFE but the problem is every time time I try to copy the DVD to avi it copies each individual Vob file to an avi and all I want is the whole disk as one complete avi file, I have tried selecting just the .ifo file as well and that did nothing either. Can anyone suggest a piece of software that might do it, I don't mind paying for it as its use would be invaluable.

It sounds similar to an app we use called 'fone home' you can even ask that to take a photograph when its switched on then it emails you to say the picture has been taken, sadly not all the iPads have been upgraded to iOS 7 yet so they don't all have it installed and this was one of them.

No sadly not they are just iPad 2 16GB wifi, i know with iOS 7 you can lock the device even if its been wiped but not sure if that works with iOS 6.

I believe we may have had an iPad pinched but cant be to sure, find my device was active and the iPad was using ios 6 but it's not appearing on the map either because it has not been switched on or it has been wiped clean. Is there anyway of tracking the device via its serial number or do I just have to bite the bullet and presume its gone forever ???

Since setting up Smoothwalls SSL VPN as per there youtube video I have a lot of warnings in event viewer for eventid 20171 which reads as follows Failed to apply IP Security on port VPN2-79 because of error: A certificate could not be found. Connections that use the L2TP protocol over IPSec require the installation of a machine certificate, also known as a computer certificate.. No calls will be accepted to this port. Not really sure what it means but it does only seem to have happened since the smoothwall VPN was setup, but in addition to that the time it is logged are right throughout the day as well as evenings when I would expect to see staff connecting. Could this be from a legacy VPN system that used to be in place, can I just stop the routing and remote access service or are there other things that would be dependant on that service ???

All sorted thanks guys, turned out to be the connector module a local shop charged us £50 to repair it, cant go wrong for that price.

That's what I was fearing :-(, as its out of warranty apple wanted £25 just to talk about it.

I have a 16GB iPad 2 that for some reason does not want to charge anymore either via iTunes or via the wall outlet, the cable is fine as is the wall plug, as I use the same ones to charge my phone. Even when the ipad is connected to the Mac it is not seen either, is there anything I can try other than holding down the home and sleep buttons at the same time as this did nothing or is it a terminal problem. We don't have an apple store in our area so cant nip it round there either, does anybody have any suggestions please ???

Hi Everyone, Just a quick question regarding E-Safety, I received an email today from the following; One Day They are currently booking e-safety projects for primary schools the one I am really interested in is called 'Into the Screen' and is aimed at KS1 children using well-known fairy tale characters to highlight the importance of keeping safe online, will the 3 little pigs tell the big bad wolf where they live ??? Will Red Riding Hood notice granny looks different today and will the Ugly Sisters stop being horrible to Cinderella. It sounds really good but has anybody ever used them before or know of any schools they have been to that may be able to provide a bit more information, If we book them I really want the point to come across to the children and not just sit and watch a show.

Is it possible to change the board from a serial connection to a USB connection ??? we had a load of USB cables left by the installers when they were initially installed (I don't know why as the board does have a USB connection on the back of it) but if I replace the serial cable for a USB then there is obviously no interaction as that is connected via the serial cable.

We have serial connection on the board which converts to usb with the aid of a serial to usb convertor, I have tried changing that and still the same.

We are currently having a problem with all our boards running 64bit windows either 7 or 8, everything seems to work fine but suddenly the pen will stop responding even though is still shows up in the control panel as connected, it will not let you disconnect either you have to physically reboot the laptop. I have upgraded the firmware on the board to the latest version, done all windows updates, update the drivers to the latest version but it still continues to stop responding, I have even replaced the interactive PSU in case that was at fault. I have now rolled the driver back to 5.7 as when it was on the latest driver the board would not automatically start for some reason but with 5.7 it did, has anybody got any ideas were the problem may lie as I am a little stumped now.

Good Morning, I wonder if I could get your thoughts on budget laptops, as times are hard we cant afford to buy 30 top of the range laptops for use in school and would like to look at our options if you don't mind sharing your opinions; We are looking for something like as follows; 15" screens Wireless N (2.4 but 5ghz would be nicer). Hard Drive size is not an issue as we are only using about 20GB of the current drives RAM (as much as possible) OS (cheapest possible option as we have an EES licence) Warrant as much as possible Any recommendations to look at or avoid would be greatly appreciated. I am trying to run a .bat file that clears a log file on a windows 8 laptop each time the user logs on if I have UAC turned off it works fine but then the apps on the Metro screen don' work, but if UAC is turned back on then it wont run due to it not being an elevated cmd prompt. Is there a command line I can put at the start of the .bat file which will elevate the prompt so the remainder of the file can run ???

Hi Everyone, I have a problem with a Lenovo E530 running Windows 7x64, when the laptop is at school it works fine over the wifi, when I bring it home it works on my wifi but when the teacher concerned takes it home there is no internet ??? I logged on to her laptop remotely and set the wifi up for her using the passkey that she gave me, she has tested this key on her ipad and her phone and gets on the internet with no problems. When the laptop connects to the wifi it connects fine then receives a valid IP address but no internet, I have tried a ping to yahoo.com and nothing, the proxy settings option is blank and there is no static IP etc on the wifi card. If she connects the laptop via a network cable it all works fine but not over wifi, I was unable to connect to the talk talk box as she did not know the username and password to login. She is using WPA2-Personel AES authentication, is there anything else I can check with me not being able to connect to the router ??? Cheers in advance Marc.

Just out of curiosity how long does everyones backup take ??? I just think ours is a bit slow. We have DC that has an internal SATA RDX drive installed, we back up around 900GB of data all of which is on the same server as its the only one so its not backing up any others over the network, no VM's either and were using backup exec 2012 but including the verify its taking around 12 hours. Is this about right or is it a bit slow as it seems an awful long time.
