Sims Lesson Monitor not allowing staff to take registers

Recommended Posts

We have just started to use Lesson monitor for registration Problem is:

About 23 of our staff out of 90 are not able to register there class's. The Class lists are shown but when the user tries to register it doesn't allow you to mark off the students with the / just comes up with the -

We have checked the local workstation installation of Sims and Permissions etc and all are fine.

Any Ideas?

The problem has been esscalated to Captia.

All other functions within sims.net work no problem with no application errors etc.

IIRC theres a patch to fix this known problem, assuming it is the problem we were having. It certainly sounds very similar.

Thanks mate, Would appricate if you could point me in the right dirrection for the patch. Not heard anything back from CAPITA yet! Will be back in work in the morning and might get some more details then.

Thanks

We had a similar problem with 'Take Register'.

I think it was fixed by deleting the 'lessonmonitor.mdb' file on staff laptops - at least that's what I was instructed to do!

Go for it and see what happens!

Hi Noah,

Can the teachers see the timeline on the homepage?

Regarding the permissions do you use the Class Teacher permission provided by Capita or have you created your own version of the Class Teacher permission.

Kind regards

We had an issue where staff weren't seeing their timetables in the new LM (Take Register) - turned out that their SIMS account had been setup before they were loaded onto Personnel (System - Add a new user [not already known to the system]

Had to delete their SIMS account and re-create from the Personnel Module information (System - Add Existing people as users of the system)

Ok Finally got the August Update applied, and now some staff cant access the old LM Module, so we're shunting them onto the Take Register (TR) method

PROBLEM:

No-one can enter marks for AM Reg.. only P1 thru P6

AM Reg not showing in the "My Classes Today" timeline,

AM Reg shows up in their registers but they cannot enter any marks..

How do you take AM Registration Marks in TR??

Yes staff are able to see the time line and their register with all the classes being correct they are just anable to mark the registers with /.

I personally don't set the sims.net program permission but have been reasured that they are all correct.

Still struggling to find an answer to this one.

Any help would be very much appricated.

Still struggling to get to the bottom of this one.

Captia have no answers as yet.

It only effects about 20% of our existing sims users - Create new sims users and staff can take registers no problem.

Had our LEA SIMS Team dialled in today and they did a fresh Windows XP install with all updates and then did a manual Sims installation to ensure no conflicts.

They then logged onto the computer as a domain admin with full access rights and no group policy’s in force. Loaded sims.net and they still had the same problem with lesson monitor with any of the affected users. Concluding that it can't be NTFS file permissions issue or a group policy related.

We are grasping at straws! The LEA have even reinstalled SQL on the Server.

We have almost conclusively concluded that it must be a problem with the sims.net permissions even though they seem to have the same permissions as working users which is rather confusing!

As I've already said create a new user in Sims and there is no problem with the taking registers in lesson monitor.

I've been told by our LEA that because of the complicated nature of the database with personnel details etc it is not possible to simply recreate existing staff users in sims.net

Please anyone that can help with this one would be much appreciated.

Did a complete server shutdown this morning

County checked the date format on the server then tried logging into sims.net on the server as one of the affected with users with the same lesson monitor problem. No change, still grasping straw!

Easy ...Use PARS for lesson registration! Easy for teachers to use, writes data back to SIMS immediately (no overnight update required), user permissions can be restricted allowing teachers to:

take registers for any day or just today

option to not change marks when register closed or change marks

Change marks for any groups or just their own

send alerts to teachers with missing registers

report and analysis on subject attendance aswell as session (DCFS reqt), pattern lesson absence, post reg truants, .......100s reports to choose from or design your own.

Behavour and grading also from register.

Excellent support, excellent training (thats me!)

Aswell as being very user friendly (if your teachers can't use it then you are stuck! - results are only as good as your worst marker!) you can easily analyse data enabling schools to improve attendance which inturn improves assessment results.

........It's also VERY cost effective!!

I am however very biaised as I am the PARS training officer at TASC Software and if I can't shout out and be proud of what we do then I wouldnt be there. :0)

It would be nice if you use PARS if you could give your experiences as our schools learn of our product via word of mouth as to try and explain exactly everything it does in a short space is just not possible.

PARS is (as defined by a senior DFES representative) the Rolls Royce of electrionic attendance and that is before you look at the messaging, behaviour referral system, detention registers, assessment reports.....

Aaaaghhh .... I cant stop writing.....
