I think I am more looking forward to the iOS7 update than anything here at the moment, I have a 4S, probably when my contract expires end of January/Feb I will look at the 5S, partially because I on the platform and it does seem a decent phone, though I won't be getting it if its a massive amount of cash for the phone, the networks usually subsidise this stuff to get you on there, as I didn't pay anything at all for the 4S when I had it, despite it supposedly being £149 to get, think they are more eager to discount though given my wife and I renew ours the same time and their both on the same account.

 

Was a bit miffed at giving away of iMovie and iPhoto though, considering I paid for them, I wont hold my breath waiting on a refund though there :)

 

Who are you with and how come or how do you manage not to pay the up front amount ?

Well, I just spent £118 on one of these for Mrs Dos_Box's birthday: Cubot GT99 - 4.5 Inch IPS HD screen Android 4.2 Quad: Amazon.co.uk: Electronics seeign as the N9770 I got earlier this year was too big for her to use effectively.

Quad core, all mod cons, very nippy and with an excellent display. Review to follow soon

 

Will wait eagerly for the review - specs look good but heard many differing opinions of these.

Why the iPhone's fingerprint sensor is better than the ones on older laptops

 

With the new sensors you don’t have to move your finger, just press it against the reader. And like the sensor in the iPhone 5S, the sensors that will be in laptops and keyboards and other phones can detect the ridge and valley pattern of your fingerprint not from the layer of dead skin on the outside of your finger (which a fake finger can easily replicate), but from the living layer of skin under the surface of your finger, using an RF signal. That only works on a live finger; not one that’s been severed from your body.

 

This will protect you from thieves trying to chop off your finger when they mug you for your phone (assuming they’re tech-literate thieves, of course), as well as from people with fake fingers using the fingerprint they lifted from your phone screen.

It does not matter though as the dumb Apple faithful will still part with £700 for a fingerprint sensor.....

Most people will not be spending £709 though (for the same reason most people don't buy the £739 128GB iPad with 3G). The majority will buy them on contracts for less money up-front (but more overall).

Most people won't see it is costing them £709, they only see as far as the monthly cost. A bit like buying 2nd hand cars for only £39 a month finance over 5 years.

Will have it done soon. So far she's not had any issues at all and it fairly flies as regards performance. The problem that most have is that getting Chinese phones with less than a 5" screen size and running 4.2 is a nightmare. The Cubot GT99 is pretty good value for money, especially given the higher res screen and quad-core processor that last years chipset of choice, the MTK 6577, didn't have :)

It's alright folks I'll sell you a phone that's shiny for £700. All I need is your name, contact list, set of finger prints, and I've put GPS in it so I know where you are all the time and I can sell that on to Big Bro.

Have to say, i find these threads kinda insulting and upsetting.... :(

 

I get little jokey digs now and then, fine i can deal with that and laugh it off. This feels almost personal....

 

I don't appreciate being called a moron cus i have an iPhone. I don't own it for bragging rights...

 

I pay a monthly contract, it does what i want it to so i'm happy. I cant believe that there is almost a stigma for having a certain brand of phone....

TBH, most of the comments are to/about people who blindly buy Apple without looking at other options, purely because it's Apple. The sort of people who see nothing wrong with anything they may or may not do and treat everything Apple does as some brand new thing, despite it being around for ages on other devices.

 

If iDevice is the best for you, fair enough. If you bought it just because it's Apple... You're going to have a bad time.

@Little-Miss - to put your mind at ease, much of the problem and stigma lies with the blind, not the faithful. There's a difference. I will call *anyone* a complete and utter moron if they buy a product for either a £stupidamount per month contract or a £howmuch? one off amount compared to other comparable products, if they can't afford it or are stretching their means. If you know what you're buying, like what you're buying, and can afford what you're buying, then the only morons are those saying otherwise.

Yep, i've got an iPhone 5...had an iPhone 4.

 

I own an iPad Mini and an iPod Touch...so i must be a complete looser...

I think this is much more down to the superior attitude that Apple users have traditionally had, this has been the status quo for ages and generates a certain amount of fighting back. All those snarky Apple ads about pc vs Mac showed that the same attitude was celebrated by the company and a large chunk of it's userbase. Is it any wonder there is a reaction especially from those forced to shoehorn Apples tech into areas it is not good for by the same snarky fanboys that promote it at all costs especially to those that don't bother to make a considered decision.

Feel like anyone that owns an iPhone is being judged the same. I'd like to think i know what i'm doing. Don't get me wrong as a lot of you know, i am tempted by the shiny shiny (and i personally don't think its that nice looking a device), don't I buy the thing cus it's got Apple written all over it.

 

Last Android phone i owned was a HTC Fire, so like mid-low range hardware which didn't show me the best of what it can do, so i can't comment on it.

 

I wont be dumping my iPhone 5 to get a newer one. When my contract ends i see what i fancy and choose then.

 

Also...where's the purple?!

iPhone users are lucky in regards to that.

 

Because they're so popular, you can just buy skins/cases.

 

I can't find any for my Galaxy S/S3...
