WOL Whole Domain

Does anyone have a script or nice program i could schedua to wake my whole domain up?

Did find one but now lost it!! lol

I use the WOL command line tool from http://www.depicus.com/wake-on-lan/

 

It takes as an argument the MAC address of the machine you want to wake. If you have a list of all your MAC addresses then it's easy to write a batch file which does lots of "wolcmd MAC" type commands.

 

We audit all the PCs and store the MAC addresses in a SQL database. There's then a script which can be used with a particular OU - it just queries AD to find the computer names in that OU then looks at the SQL database to find the MAC address for each and wakes it. It would be trivial to make it just wake every MAC in the db

 

there's a resource kit tool called dhcpmd which will allow you to dump the DHCP database as a text file - it includes computer name and MAC address. You can then either find the MAC for particular machines and wake them or ytou can just wake every MAC

 

If you have Ghost then it can do WOL; create a "do nothing" task and config it to do WOL ("do nothing" can be somethig like transfer a small file to the C: drive; will take very little time but will wake the machine to do it!)

Integrates with active directory, I've got it setup to shutdown all machines at a certain time of day and then WOL them at 7am - it also pings machines once they've been told to shutdown, any that reply i check out the next day to find out why they didnt shutdown, same with startup, any that don't start up i go find out why. It also does some other useful stuff.

I like the ability to shutdown or standby PCs whether a user is logged in or not and it requires no client software. There is a 30 day trail but it costs money in the end but it's solid.
