I think a good logo needs to be simple and TBH, that one looks like a dogs breakfast.

- Maybe keep the bit we've already got with the cursive "Edu".

 

I like the geek bit and the angel over the .net. Very "Simon Templar" (ref: The Saint). Text at the bottom is fine too.

The person who did this with me IS in the commercial design world. Not all designers will agree with each other. This design however is modular. What is show in the 'full' version. The 'www', '.net' and the oval are all removable to suit the situation.

Remember, as a site we are hit randomly from Google visitors and need to spell out who we are quickly and easily. I will concede that the black oval needs lightening though. It looked better on the PC we did it on.

Have to echo ajbrittons comments. A site as large as this has now beconme needs something a little more polished and professional.

 

Something that can be used on anything and can be scaled up / down and be instantly recognisable as our logo.

My breakdown of it ...

 

The 'www' and '.net' are good but the '.net' could do with being moved in a bit so the the positioning mirrors the www (when vertically and horizontally flipped).

 

The cursive 'Edu' from the present logo accentuates the fact that we work in education and worth keeping. There is not enough difference in font styling in the new logo ... if you don't want to have the cursive 'Edu' then a clear difference in font between 'Edu' and 'Geek' is needed.

 

I am not sure whether it is just my eyes but the font spacing on the 'ee' doesn't seem quite right ... I think it is that the horns are more slanted and this is ok on the one next to the G as it fits in the space left by the curve at the top of the letter, but doesn't work against the hard edge of the k.

 

I've always like the idea of the halo going above the 'ee' ... but it is actually the horns that are holding it up.

 

I prefer the whole of the word 'Geek; to be the same colour ... changing colour mid-word is a bit like changing font ... only do it when you are trying to stress something. We have already made on change by anthropomorphisising the letters (sticking human-ish characteristics of the eyes and horns ... ok ... only vaguely human but you know what I mean) so do we nee to do another change?

 

The black background doesn't work for me ... I prefer a lighter background but that is just because I like to have some form of drop shadow on lettering in logos ... personal preference more than anything else.

 

I like the containing oval shape and the modular nature of the whole design. I will miss the patch lead though ... perhaps for the Edugeek tie we should have a diagonal 8 line accent to a light grey background showing the untwisted pairs.

But if you didn't know it was Cisco you might think it was a bridge construction company.

That's just due to the popularity of the company, nothing to do with the way the logo is designed.

I like the black and red but there is to much going on in the logo. It needs simplifying.

your missing the point you can tell what the company is by the logo, it doesn’t need the company name. So if edugeek could make a recognised logo they would be able to make that logo without the full company
