tmcd35 Posted July 1, 2013 Posted July 1, 2013 We have a number of display boards around the school with staff holding a copy of their favourite book (I went for "Mars" by Ben Bova). This gave our head of ICT an idea... He wants a display board in his room of ICT teachers and ICT techs holding their favourite peace of tech. I'm down to three choices... My iPhone I have an old Atari 2600 (actually I have a number of old/rare consoles, but this is the best for this) Source an Amiga 600 from somewhere Which one should I go for? and what would you choose as your favourite bit of tech to hold up, if asked?
sted Posted July 1, 2013 Posted July 1, 2013 as to which you should pick pass 2 of them seem decent candidates as to my favorite id say my kindle
Gibson335 Posted July 1, 2013 Posted July 1, 2013 I'm just grateful I don't have a favourite if I'm being honest.
tmcd35 Posted July 1, 2013 Author Posted July 1, 2013 I'm just grateful I don't have a favourite if I'm being honest. Now that's what I call a cop out! So you'd have your picture taken either - holding nothing, or surrounded by gadgets...
witch Posted July 1, 2013 Posted July 1, 2013 My trusty Lenovo T60 or my phone- showing my tuning app - invaluable!
Gibson335 Posted July 1, 2013 Posted July 1, 2013 Now that's what I call a cop out! So you'd have your picture taken either - holding nothing, or surrounded by gadgets... No - wouldn't have it done at all.
hardtailstar Posted July 1, 2013 Posted July 1, 2013 Atari all the way. My current favourite tech atm would be my Nexus 4 followed by my Nexus 7.
plexer Posted July 1, 2013 Posted July 1, 2013 No - wouldn't have it done at all. Not really in keeping with the thread then? Ben
sonofsanta Posted July 1, 2013 Posted July 1, 2013 Which one is the one that inspired you the most? It's "favourite", not "best", after all. I'd go for my Amiga 500, as it's what set me down this rocky path of IT. Vastly superseded but will always hold a place in my heart, Amiga Power demo discs and AMOS Pro and all
JJonas Posted July 1, 2013 Posted July 1, 2013 So many to choose from, to list a few Xbox 360, Sony eReader, SKY HD Box, Logitech Squeezebox Boom... If we are talking all time tech its got to be the ZX80 as that got me into computers, but that wasnt mine it was borrowed So for current tech my Tassimo coffee machine - it helps me get up in the morning.
X-13 Posted July 1, 2013 Posted July 1, 2013 and what would you choose as your favourite bit of tech to hold up, if asked? The Portal gun. Or the cosmic cube. [At no point did you say it had to be something real.]
tmcd35 Posted July 1, 2013 Author Posted July 1, 2013 (edited) If we talking all time favourite tech - it has to be my iPhone. I'm with @tech_guy - wielded to it! But, it seems a bit too modern/obvious for what they want to do. I like the idea of something where the kids look and say "whats that?". I think that's why it would be the Atari (nearly went for the Amstrad GX4000). If I could source an A600 quick enough, then that's probably been more influencial to my life - but the Atari is retro cool! @X-13, you might look a little silly attempting to pose with a non existent Portal Gun Edited July 1, 2013 by tmcd35

Soulfish Posted July 1, 2013 Posted July 1, 2013 For me it's either got to be my iPad or my smartphone (was an iPhone user but now have a Samsung S4!). Both have changed how I use/interact with computers/internet/devices. If I had to pick I'd probably go with smartphone. I'm lost without my smartphone and data contract and even went so far as to get a PAYG T-Mobile SIM while in New York recently to help me get around/find stuff!
CAM Posted July 1, 2013 Posted July 1, 2013 You can buy replica portal guns though! EDIT - X-13 beat me before I could even hit post! My favourite tech would have to be a toss up between my Windows Phone or Vita.
tmcd35 Posted July 1, 2013 Author Posted July 1, 2013 You can buy replica portal guns though! EDIT - X-13 beat me before I could even hit post! $170 - shows dedication to the cause! I'd sooner find an old 10-BaseT LAN card (I must have one laying around somewhere) to hold up
Danp Posted July 1, 2013 Posted July 1, 2013 Id have to say smartphone as fav bit of tech, it is so useful.
X-13 Posted July 1, 2013 Posted July 1, 2013 $170 - shows dedication to the cause! I'd sooner find an old 10-BaseT LAN card (I must have one laying around somewhere) to hold up $170 and you get a cool vidya game prop for your own purposes. Alternatvely: Valve
SchoolsBroadband Posted July 1, 2013 Posted July 1, 2013 I'm loving my new HTC One. The screen is brilliant and the new HTC user interface is pretty cool too HTC One Overview - HTC Smartphones Dave
unixman_again Posted July 1, 2013 Posted July 1, 2013 This I've had it since 1974 and it still works fine. The instruction book on mine is a bit more tatty than the one in the picture. I saw one the other day for £45 on ebay. Extra points if you can use one! 1
rich_tech Posted July 1, 2013 Posted July 1, 2013 non-existant ! no way ! Limited Edition ! yes way ! ThinkGeek :: Limited Edition Portal Gun Replica
LosOjos Posted July 1, 2013 Posted July 1, 2013 It'd have to be the Atari 2600 for me - that was my first computer and pretty much responsible for me pursuing a career in IT since the age of 5
