Can anyone suggest how you could install a projector in a dusty DT room?

We are looking at ways of installing a projector in a DT workroom but are worried about the dust affecting it.

 

Does anyone know if there are certain projectors that are fine in this atmosphere or of a special dust cage to go round a conventional projector?

We generally just use our standard projectors, but set the filter warnings extremely low around 50 hours. The normal filters should deal with the dust just like any other projector.

Have you considered install a TV instead? A big 55" TV on the wall looks pretty good, and could/should last longer than a projector, especially if protected by a case.

With our NEC projectors we purchases an enclosure which has additional filtering which have been great but they are not that cheap.

I'd bet a big TV will have cooling fans too. They will suck dust in and eventually the magic smoke will come out.

 

If you box the projector in, you will have cooling problems; although I do recall someone saying they'd done it, and run a fresh air pipe in from outside.

Just normal NECs in our and they have been fine and the same in catering although the fact that grease holds the projector onto the mount when screws are removed for the projector cleaning is worrying but it still keeps working

As per Steve21's post. However, while I've not got enough data to be conclusive, 50+% of projectors I've ever deployed last more than 3 years, but ones in DT spaces have all been in the 50% that do not.

most new DLP projectors don't use filters, I don't know if this makes them better or not. It's nice to not have to clean my filters every half term now:)

Hi

 

Use a cheap projector with an easy to clean filter and clean it every month. It will block up but when you clean it use compressed air and it will last longer and be prepared to replace it every few years.

Dont hoover it as this causes static and can damage the projector.

I think that is called common sense does the PC manual tell you to take it to bits and take all the filth from the CPU vents and the air vents in the case and chassis fan.... No it doesn't but you do it as it can cause over-heating / fire etc... you are using common sense to do that as you know it improves life and stability. Also remember projectors are still assumed to be Professional fit items (yes I know lots of people fit them now) but they assume the fitters will tell you to use common sense if its got 2" of dust all over it and its vents are block its going to over-heat and may strike fire.....

 

Has been mentioned on here many times RE the Casios which are "filterless" which is true no removable filters however they stuck dust in and the vents get clogged so need dusting out regularly just like any other item that pulls air through it.
