HCC Posted May 20, 2013 Posted May 20, 2013 Hi all, Looking at upgrading softlink Alice to support Accelerated Reader, and get better reports etc. Any opinions on which is better (Oliver or Eclipse) or if there are any other alternatives? thanks,
Edu-IT Posted May 20, 2013 Posted May 20, 2013 I can't say which is best, as I haven't any experience of using Oliver, but we use Eclipse here and it works well for us and does everything we need. If you have specific questions about reporting or features, let me know, I'll be happy to try answer or find the information out for you.
atechguy Posted May 20, 2013 Posted May 20, 2013 we use eclipse.net hosted works very well and its hosted on their servers, not in house.
Theblacksheep Posted May 20, 2013 Posted May 20, 2013 Oliver if you love java and don't care about ram. Dunno about eclipse.
tmcd35 Posted May 20, 2013 Posted May 20, 2013 Oliver if you love java and don't care about ram. Dunno about eclipse. Replace 'java' with 'silverlight' and the sentence still works Actually we use Eclipse.net with silverlight turned off and it's okay.
Edu-IT Posted May 20, 2013 Posted May 20, 2013 Replace 'java' with 'silverlight' and the sentence still works Actually we use Eclipse.net with silverlight turned off and it's okay. We've not moved to the new siliverlight management interface yet. Is it really that bad?
tmcd35 Posted May 20, 2013 Posted May 20, 2013 To be honest it's been years since I tried. Couldn't get it working at the time, I think we we're using the wrong version of Silverlight. Ended up just sticking with the normal HTML view.
cromertech Posted May 20, 2013 Posted May 20, 2013 Use Eclipse.net here and works very well also. Can customise the default view to include the AR reading levels very easily. OT slightly @Edu-IT Full silverlight management not available in Eclipse.net for us yet (hosted inhouse) but we use the silverlight front end and circulation app and it works no trouble. Actually silverlight uses less server resources than the older ASP pages.
teejay Posted May 20, 2013 Posted May 20, 2013 MLS who make Eclipse.net have been bought out by Capita, just saying....

I've just setup MLS in house and was expecting to see this new front end as pictured on the MLS site/Guides.. but we get the what appears to be an much more basic interface.. EDIT* Found a setting to change to silverlight mode! Edited May 22, 2013 by PRicho
