Hi,

We're looking at setting up our school with a EES agreement to replace the Ad-Hoc licenses.

Our usual software channel ServiceBirmingham - seem to be presenting me with more problems than answers.

Has anybody got any experience with a Microsoft licensing partner that they have favourable experience with?

Any contacts, names, numbers welcomed.

Cheers guys.

OP Software Limited - The Specialist IT Consultancy and Solutions Provider for us. Ozan (@ICTNUT on here) is extremely helpful and will get you exactly what you want at a good price.

everybody else has been to busy to talk.

I left a message with Millgate and waiting on a callback from Novatech.

But Oz has gone away and working on it already.

Good stuff.

The Chair of govornors is in school, and i can finally say things are moving again! Happy days.

For the purposes of calculating FTE staff numbers, should we include dinner ladies that solely use electronic tills with Windows embedded on them?

Does the licence not come with the till if it's embedded?

EES licencing is not licenced per device it's per FTE member of staff.

The devices must have a licence that qualifies for the educational upgrade.

I meant, does use of such a till constitute use of a computer for the purposes of calculating FTE numbers.

We have EES and this wasn't an issue for us, but it strikes me as odd if things like tills can't be covered by their original licence - in this instance because it is the only time the user comes into contact with an MS product. I thought FTE staff with no access to devices were exempt.

No you do not need to include dinner ladies regardless of if they are using a till with embedded sw or not.

I must say that was my understanding, though my interest was only cursory as none of ours are FTE.

Yes, that is the point of my query. Is an FTE dinner lady who only uses a till counted or not? Does using a till constitute using a computer? If the same dinner lady only cooked dinners and came nowhere near a PC, I would not count her.

Thanks peeps - reply crossed over previous posts.

Millgate are always helpful, Insight are good if you can get a decent account manager, Academia can be ok on pricing as well.

Do look at the option of a 3 year contract rather than a 1 year, it does work out a lot cheaper. You're not tied to the same supplier for all 3 years, so you can shop around but it does mean you get extra discounts from Microsoft.

Using the till probably wouldn't count, but if they also used backend PC in catering then you would count them as staff, unless of course your catering is set up as a separate company then it wouldn't count at all.

Is it a PC or a till? Does she do over 200 hours a year?

It's both. If I wanted to I could write a document on it, browse the Interwebs, play Solitaire... The ladies who are using them only use them as tills, but that does not mean that they are not computers... Personally I don't think they should be counted, but I'd like to make sure.

I'm surprised that Gibson335 says none of his dinner ladies are FTE. Microsoft sets the bar very low and even those most fleeting of our staff do more than 200 hours per annum...

Some copy pasta

" In the Microsoft Enrolment for Education Solutions (EES) Program Guide, the Microsoft formula for calculating the FTE count is is stated as follows: Full-time Faculty + (Part-time Faculty / 3) + Full-time Staff + (Part-time Staff /2) = FTE Count. It is noted that "Employees such as maintenance, grounds keeping, and cafeteria staff may be excluded from the faculty/staff FTE employee count if they do not use institutional devices." In the UK, the FTE count is made up of Faculty and Staff members where:

Faculty are any employees, contractors and volunteers who teach or perform research for the intuition for more than 200hrs per annum and Staff are non-faculty employees, contractors and volunteers who perform work for the instruction for more than 200hrs per annum and use an institution qualified desktop.

The note about "employees such as maintenance, grounds keeping, and cafeteria staff may be excluded from the faculty/staff FTE employee count if they do not use institutional devices" still applies.

Some clarification/examples were provided to us by Microsoft:

Teachers – I will include all teaching staff - YES

Admin – I will include all admin staff - YES

Cleaners – cleaners work more than 200 hours per year but don’t have access to a PC – do I need to include them? - NO

Kitchen – kitchen assistants work more than 200 hours per year but don’t have access to a PC – do I need to include them? - NO

Cook – I will include the cook as she has access to a PC and her own staff username/log on. - YES

Midday Assistants – some midday assistants work more than 200 hours per year but none of them have access to a PC – do I need to include them? - NO

Teaching Assistants – Teaching assistants work more than 200 hours per year but don’t have their own PC/Laptop or staff user name/log on – they just help the pupils using the computers – do I need to include them? - NO

So based on that, the till is a pc and they use it, so if the till pc is owned by the school and the catering staff are employed by the school then they would need including I would've thought.

As long as they have their own username / password and work over 200 hrs..?

Yep, so if they do at the moment, set up a generic login for all catering staff:p
