Bill_Tech_Leigh Posted May 13, 2013 Posted May 13, 2013 Hi, We currently have a spam filter in place which doesn't seem to be doing the job so we was wondering what software everyone uses. Also, what do you think of the software? I've looked into: Iomart - http://www.iomartcloud.com/mail-filtering Altman - http://www.altman.co.uk/email-security/email-filtering/email-filtering-for-education Censornet - http://www.censornet.com/en/products/mailsafe They all seem fairly good. Suggestions please? Thanks
nickbro Posted May 13, 2013 Posted May 13, 2013 (edited) Before now, I've just told exchange to use spamhaus' filters: SBL - IP Spam Filter - The Spamhaus Project for spam filtering, and it cuts spam down to 0.1% (based on what I used to get when running my own exchange server) (zen.spamhaus.org as an exchange provider) Edited May 13, 2013 by nickbro
Dragon Posted May 13, 2013 Posted May 13, 2013 A Barracuda spam firewall. We find it very effective and very little spam gets through.
AngryTechnician Posted May 13, 2013 Posted May 13, 2013 We use a combination of the spamhaus blocklists (as per NickBro's post above), Dyn Email Gateway that runs all our incoming mail through SpamAssassin before it reaches our Exchange server, and the built-in Exchange 2010 anti-spam. (Probably in that order of effectiveness.)
Edu-IT Posted May 13, 2013 Posted May 13, 2013 Hi, We currently have a spam filter in place which doesn't seem to be doing the job so we was wondering what software everyone uses. Also, what do you think of the software? I've looked into: Iomart - iomartcloud | Cloud Email Filter | Spam, Virus & Malware Protection Altman - Email Filtering Software | Schools | Colleges | Universities | AIT Ltd Censornet - Spam Email Filter | Hosted Filtering Protection from Censornet They all seem fairly good. Suggestions please? Thanks Altman is just a re-branded/resold product, can't remember exactly which now. Censornet is very basic, and the management console is dire, in my opinion. Iomart seemed to be very good when it was demonstrated to me.
tom_newton Posted May 13, 2013 Posted May 13, 2013 IIRC Altman is webroot. If you're a smoothwall user, you could try our spam filtering - its nothing fancy but it does do the business.

CyberNerd Posted May 13, 2013 Posted May 13, 2013 I've used mailscanner with good effect: ::: Official Home Page for MailScanner - Anti-Virus and Anti-Spam Filter ::: Another thing I don't have to worry about with Google apps.
ConradJones Posted May 14, 2013 Posted May 14, 2013 Webroot, yes, I think you're right. Webroot is ceasing its Email Filtering Service, What now?
psillars Posted May 14, 2013 Posted May 14, 2013 Hi, We have a cloud based solution that can integrate with your AD if needed. The charges vary depending on the quantity of mailboxes to clean. Cost is around £2.50 per year per mailbox, coming down much lower if the volume is over 500 mailboxes. Do feel free to contact us if you want to chat through some options - 0161 615 1270
