Same issue here. Updated to 1.18 out of the box. Now waiting on HP support to give me a link to the file / the file.

This problem is widespread and has been happening to a lot of people for a while - why can't they just post the dang file. Ugh.

The HP Tech got back to me with a link to the PK1.21 firmware. I have already updated my switches with kestrel1's firmware. The link at the bottom is the firmware downloaded from HP and re hosted. Please PM me if the link goes bad.

This is the draft release notes that come with PK1.21.

Version: PK.1.21
Status: Released and fully supported
Release date: 7 January, 2014
ENHANCEMENTS
This version does not contain enhancements.
SOFTWARE FIXES
This version contains the following fixes:
• 0000128904 – Port Hang – Randomly, a port on the switch may hang. No MAC addresses will be registered on the port and both inbound and outbound traffic will no longer be forwarded on an affected port. The only recovery method is to reset the switch.
• 0000140101 – SNMP – The software does not create an instance for a trunk for the the object ifInDiscards (.1.3.6.1.2.1.2.2.1.13). When the object is queried, the log may return the following message:
UNKN Failed to get counter value.
When requesting the trunk's instance of the object directly, the software returns the error
No Such Instance currently exists at this OID
• 0000142367 – SNTP – The switch may stop requesting SNTP updates after it received a Kiss-of-Death (KoD) packet with an INIT or STEP code. After it received such a packet, the switch should retransmit using an exponential backoff algorithm if no other NTP server is available, but instead, it stops requesting SNTP updates altogether.
• 0000142692 – LLDP – The switch transmits incorrect LLDP MED TLVs that contain an incorrect VLAN ID, thus causing devices to be assigned to an incorrect or non-existing VLAN. The proper behavior for the switch is to not transmit LLDP MED packets.
• 0000145820 – Jumbo Frames – When Jumbo Frames are transmitted over a trunked port, the software increments both the counters Transmitted Packets without Errors and Transmitted Packets with Errors.

Same issue, ports die at random times and only way to fix is repatch the port or reboot the switch. Have applied the 1.21 patch and it's still happening. Would be interested to know if it works for anyone else.

Thanks. :)

How would that help, AMED - the switch was new out of the box just over a week ago on factory settings? I ask as factory resetting wouldn't be that simple, being on a different subnet to default in another part of the country :|

Strange, not had a problem with any of our switches after updating the firmware to 1.21.

Have you tried rebooting the switch again? How about trying to re-apply the new firmware? If it is still causing issues, I would get HP to sort it out, as it may be another issue that they are not aware of.

I've also not had any problems since updating the firmware. When we were having the problem we suspected it was certain ports and so did un-patch those ports and move to another.

AMED thanks for re-uploading, I've just found loads of PM's about this!

When it goes down again I suggest future readers just contact HP. I found them very useful in this and got me the firmware within 24 hours

For info HP have released a new firmware update. I haven't installed yet and suspect it's mostly to give it the HPe branding as I've seen with other switches but it does include the following fix in the release notes:

Version PK.1.32

Display Issue

CR_0000162061 Symptom: The switch GUI is unreachable.

Scenario: After 200 days of uptime on the switch, the GUI is no longer reachable.

Workaround: Reboot the switch.

Hurrah. I'll be testing out over May half-term

These issues still exist for us, even with the latest firmware. It appears random too but once one goes down the others follow over the course of the next week or so after the first one. It's almost like a protest or like they are sharing information between them.

I'm not convinced there is a hardware fault as there are 14 of them and it affects 12 of them. We used to get the random switch reboot issue too but that was fixed by firmware.

I haven't had the issue in a while but we've largely phased out the 1810's now and have a standing maintenance job to reboot them all clinically over the summer holidays. I wouldn't be surprised if there is still an issue and it happened to us just like you described...
