RichCowell Posted May 2, 2013 Posted May 2, 2013 Good Morning All! A few of the Network Managers have started hosting our own meetings, since County / CLEO / OCL stopped them, and with more and more schools moving away from OCL for their services, it makes more sense to start organising them ourselves... It's a great chance to catch up, meet other NM's, and have a rant about OCL if you're still with them... The next meeting has been arranged for Monday 13th of May at Bishop Rawstorne CE Academy, Croston, 1000-1300. Lunch provided. Places are still available, but are limited, and on a first-come, first served basis. If you're interested in attending, please PM me here on EduGeek asap.
ticker Posted May 2, 2013 Posted May 2, 2013 Cheers Ric, the last one we had was well received by those that attended so i will be going to this one.
ticker Posted May 2, 2013 Posted May 2, 2013 Luke, not this time. we would always welcome guest speakers.
Millgate Posted May 2, 2013 Posted May 2, 2013 Luke, not this time. we would always welcome guest speakers. No problem. I've been to a few recently just to say hi and discuss what we do etc. I also bring chocolate pizzas!
RichCowell Posted May 2, 2013 Author Posted May 2, 2013 Hi Luke, Thanks for the offer - The lunch will be sponsored by Virtue Technologies whom we work closely with, and who are also arranging a speaker, but the meeting is generally vendor-free...
SchoolsBroadband Posted May 2, 2013 Posted May 2, 2013 We're based just over the Pennines and would happy to be a guest speaker on topics of broadband, filtering, security or esafety. Do send me a pm. Fear not we won't do a sales pitch Dave
supawat1 Posted May 2, 2013 Posted May 2, 2013 Don't get me wrong, but Sales person always say "Fear not we won't do a sales pitch", but at the end of the day, you want to sales something

RichCowell Posted May 10, 2013 Author Posted May 10, 2013 We'll post again when we're organising the next one... ChrisH - I'll PM you now.
LukeC Posted May 10, 2013 Posted May 10, 2013 (edited) Any Lancs NM/techs going to the conference? Edited May 10, 2013 by LukeC
RichCowell Posted May 10, 2013 Author Posted May 10, 2013 Any Lancs NM/techs going to the conference? I'll be there as always, Ticker's going too...
GrumbleDook Posted May 11, 2013 Posted May 11, 2013 In Northants it was usually worked that the sales folk didn't do a pitch, but one of the local schools did a walk through of what they used, why they chose it and the difference it made. If any school wanted to follow it up with a Sales drone afterwards then that was fine. This model is also used in a number of other places too now (and is similar to what can happen at Teachmeets too) ... Don't be scared to have sales folk around ... you just need to show them who is boss.

That's probably the way these will work, as we're probably going to continue taking it in turns to host it, the host NM can take that opportunity to do as you said...

In Yorkshire when I chaired them we had a firm in of the groups choosing / request so once they said we want to learn about VDI etc... and I brought in Cutter to talk to them and yes there is a sales angle in terms of have my card, guide prices etc but we tried to make them not rammed down throat and people like Cutter did a brilliant job of that We found it useful to have them present, for example the Smoothwall guys came to each meeting as they have the filtering contact and they stayed behind and @CJF gave a good bit of info related to programming which was useful so they are not always bad things to have "sales" people Edited May 13, 2013 by john
