I'm currently replacing the standard energy saving and incandescent bulbs in our house as there are massive energy savings to be had. For example in our living room we have a light fitting that took 5x40w incandescent bulbs. replacing these with LED bulbs means that when all bulbs are on they consume a third of the electricity that one incandescent bulb did. That's pretty sweet IMO.

Anyway, we have done the same in the kitchen (2x3 bulb light fittings). However, under the kitchen units we have 3 small incandescent strip lights, each about 10 inches long, which I find handy as you often cast a shadow over the work area and I am trying to find if there are any LED alternative available yet.

Does anyone know if such bulbs are available yet?

the only problem ive found with led lights is they are very directional the one i have KLOR LED pendant lamp - IKEA its great at one end of the sofa but makes reading harder at the other (now granted the light is directly above one end but the sofas only sofa sized

Not really. these are the ones we have fitted in the living room:HUGE DISCOUNTS on E14 LED Candle Shape Bulb 220 Lumens 40W Equiv and they throw out the light the same as the incandescent bulbs did.

You realise of course that you will save NO energy in the winter?

Your heating will just work harder to keep the temperature up to the level set on your stat. That said, if you were to have AC, then you would save more in the summer.

Are they flouresants? if so you'll need to re-wire to remove the ballast and the starter. Had to do this in our livingroom at home when we replaced our T8's with LED tubes

Our new kitchen has led strips just under the work tops. No idea where they were sourced from but they are pretty cool (when you get fed up of one colour you just change it for another).

You need to look for RGB tape. Very cheap and extremely low running costs
