Setting NTFS Permissions on multiple files / folders "Windows Server 2008 R2"

Hi

 

I'm going to go straight to the point, Now I've been aware of this problem for a while but surely there must be a way round it!!!

but how I can set file permissions on multiple files / folders at one time. I have got to re organise a few shared folders with different permissions but I don't fancy spending hours on it when I know it can be done within minutes.

 

I know I could do this with Windows server 2003 but since the release of 2008 they removed this.

 

does anyone know how to get the security tab back when you highlight multiple folders or a program that will do the same job??

I use xcacls but I also use a tool known as security explorer. This is a great tool to have for managing permissions and saves a whole lot of work. It's a powerful tool so treat it with care. Unfortunately it's not free but there is a virtual trial you can try online.

 

UPDATE

Just noticed this has been bought out by Dell and the licensing is now too expensive in my view. Shame it's a great tool to have in your admin arsenal

Shame really. I was hoping for a GUI based tool. I work in a school so money is short I'm afraid. will have to try and stick to freeware if I can

 

I find that command based programs can just take half as long. this is why I prefer GUI. but thanks peeps!

 

If anyone else has a GUI based program that would work please let me know.
