VeryPC Posted April 19, 2013 Posted April 19, 2013 No, but only because I rarely drink tea and I'm currently without coffee. It appears there's gold stars[!] I want a gold star... Where did you find this information? Not even @DaveP has one of those.
X-13 Posted April 19, 2013 Posted April 19, 2013 Where did you find this information? Not even @DaveP has one of those. The URL for the "brown" stars is http://staticc3.cdngeek.net/images/reputation/reputation_bronzestar.gif Change "bronze" to "gold" and it's there. 1

X-13 Posted April 19, 2013 Posted April 19, 2013 (edited) You hacked it! Fine work my friend. It's a slow day. If I've worked it out right, each rep "dan", for lack of a better term, is worth about 200 rep. Providing they're all equal. Also, the maximum amount of stars you can have, I think, is 4, So to hit 1 gold you need about 30,000 rep. Maybe... I may have worked it out wrong. @VeryPC, if you have about 3,400 rep, then it's a solid theory. [15 dan per star, 200 rep per dan, 17 x 200 = 3,400] Le EDIT: wait... 30k is wrong. 48,000? Le EDIT 2: nope... 16 dan per star [16 is the star]... 10,909 [mine] / ((16 [star] x 3) + 12) = 181.816666 I'm going to say about 150-175 per dan. Edited April 19, 2013 by X-13 1
kaphc Posted April 19, 2013 Author Posted April 19, 2013 Dear me, what have I started! The only thing now is that I always want to be told that I am splendid to behold, therefore all my future posts on edugeek will have to be utter codswallop so that I gain no rep ever again!
X-13 Posted April 19, 2013 Posted April 19, 2013 I always want to be told that I am splendid to behold Doesn't everyone?
kaphc Posted April 19, 2013 Author Posted April 19, 2013 Doesn't everyone? You have a pony to tell you. I may need to investigate a similar suitable minion for my own purposes :-)
X-13 Posted April 19, 2013 Posted April 19, 2013 (edited) I may need to investigate a similar suitable minion for my own purposes :-) Ponies for all! ----- Al, if you have between 2700 and 2850 it's 150, 3150 to 3325 is 175. 150 puts gold at 36,000, 175 would be 42,000... I think. I'm working in the dark here. Le EDIT: 180 per dan. Final offer. 43200 for gold, Al is on about 3240 - 3420. ^ This is what your post looks like on Math. Math - Not even once. Checking, 20k gets you where I am, you need 5 bronze to get a silver and probably 5 silver to get gold so it could be much higher. Despite having to fight vbulitin every step of the way. Edited April 20, 2013 by SYNACK
SYNACK Posted April 20, 2013 Posted April 20, 2013 Let's break it down, the dark green pips are per 100, the light green are 200, gold are 400 and there are 5 of each so 500 + 1000 + 2000 = 3500 per bronze star, x 5 = 17500 per silver and by progression 5 of those must be gold at 87500
X-13 Posted April 22, 2013 Posted April 22, 2013 (edited) 5 of those must be gold at 87500I think the amount of silvers required drops for every gold you have. 0 gold > 5 silver, 1 gold > 4 silver, 2 gold > 2 silver...and so on. I think you can only have a maximum of 4 stars at once. Le EDIT: Dafuq? I can't put things on new lines... Edited April 22, 2013 by X-13

VeryPC Posted April 22, 2013 Posted April 22, 2013 Let's break it down, the dark green pips are per 100, the light green are 200, gold are 400 and there are 5 of each so 500 + 1000 + 2000 = 3500 per bronze star, x 5 = 17500 per silver and by progression 5 of those must be gold at 87500 I'm on exactly 3150 and have a single brown bronze star plus 2 dark green dots, so I reckon 1 bronze star = 3000 rep which means gold dot must = 300 rep rather than 400: 5 x 100 = 500 5 x 200 = 1000 5 x 300 = 1500 --------------- total = 3000 There's an old thread where @ZeroHour introduces the thanks system and breaks down the green dot points, which confirms 1 dark green = 100, 1 bright green = 200, but does not specify the gold dots http://www.edugeek.net/forums/general-edugeek-news-announcements/14757-new-forum-feature-thanks-button.html I suppose I should follow this through: 5 x 3000 = 15000 5 x 15000 = 75000 5 x 75000 = 375000 But, as @X-13 says, there isn't room for all the bronzes next to your silvers, or your silvers next to your golds, so the number required to get next silver or gold may decrease the more you have, or the system may just not display the extra ones. Are we reaching the point where someone chimes in with "you know what, it doesn't really matter..." Al
X-13 Posted April 22, 2013 Posted April 22, 2013 Are we reaching the point where someone chimes in with "you know what, it doesn't really matter..." I both hope so and hope not... I'm in the middle of working out the algebraic expression to figure it out on the fly... God, I'm such a nerd. 1
CAM Posted April 22, 2013 Posted April 22, 2013 I think they designed the rep bars in a complicated manner to taunt us, knowing we are geeks who can't stand problems that must be solved.

I am experiencing this first hand... I WILL NOT BE BEATEN!
VeryPC Posted April 22, 2013 Posted April 22, 2013 I don't care I just want another star You've cut right to the core of it - the only reason we care is so we can see how close we are to our next reward. Gimme more stars!

X-13 Posted April 22, 2013 Posted April 22, 2013 (edited) Oh... I was actually pretty close. You get gold for breaking 45k rep. [i originally guessed 48k.] Gray - 0 1lg - 100 2lg - 200 3lg - 300 4lg - 400 5lg - 500 1dg - 700 2dg - 900 3dg - 1100 4dg - 1300 5dg - 1500 1gd - 1800 2gd - 2100 3gd - 2400 4gd - 2700 5gd - 3000 1b - 3100 2b - 6100 3b - 9100 4b - 12100 1s - 15100 18100 21100 24100 2s - 27100 30100 33100 3s - 36100 39100 4s - 42100 1g - 45100 The numbers are the upper limit for that representation. E.G - 1b is actually 3001 - 3100 Now, I'm off to lunch... I may work it out properly later. Edited April 22, 2013 by X-13
kaphc Posted April 22, 2013 Author Posted April 22, 2013 @kaphc Looking at your supergirl avatar how about streaky supergirl's supercat? I like supergirl's supercat! Meow! Having a busy day so no time to interview supercats for suitability today but I will investigate.
