IE10 OK to use or stay away?

Building up our standard image for the summer, is IE10 OK to include or are there any issues with it? We use Group Policy to send out the proxy settings but have heard if issues with that, whats the general consensus?

Not sure from a GPO view but fro personal use it is fine, quicker and has some cool features when used in touch mode.

Main thing is to prepare your servers to administer the preferences. Internet Explorer Maintenance no longer works (and indeed it disappears if you install IE10 on the machine hosting the console). So, you need Server 2012 or Windows 8 with RSAT to create a GPP item for IE10 that'll then work with Windows 7 / S2K8R2 and later machines. You can also manage IE10 preferences with other tools, but we GPP to be easiest. We never managed to get the proxy setting working with Windows 8 though, even though it works on 7.

You need UAG SP3 for it to support IE10 - and we can't use SP3 due to the IE bug with File Access - not likely to be fixed any time soon due to MS deprecating the feature from UAG!

I released IE 10 for windows 7 a last day of term on the WSUS(got my dates of when term ended mixed up), only problem we have come acrossed is something to do with downloading files they fail to download properly. i have the details at work i'l post them when i get in tomorrow.

I installed it at home and it broke our Exchange 2007 webmail. May or may not be relevant to you.

I have problems with IE10 and assigning sites to zones, it works fine on IE9 but not at all on IE10.

In my opinion, it's not quite ready yet for non-home users.

 

• On Windows 7 the spellcheck is broken if you have redirected AppData and needs a workaround.
  
• The "Open with Explorer" feature in SharePoint Online is also completely broken, so if you have Office 365 and rely on that feature, stay away.
  

 

Neither of these occur on Windows 8, so it's clear that there are issues with the Windows 7 build that you won't see on Windows 8. I can't help but wonder how many others there are that we haven't found yet.

Personally given the issues I've experienced with IE10 on Windows8 at home I'd steer clear of it for now. It doesn't really have any stand-out features beyond what IE9 offers and seems to break a lot of websites in my experience.

For info, IE10 is not supported for SIMS .net reporting until the Summer release.

I have seen the odd error with OWA on 2010 as well as on this forum and some other sites the enter key does not work unless you are in compatibility mode.

Well, at the moment it looks like I will stay with 9 then. In my own experience with our CMS school website, it made editing pages shall we say..interesting! The boxes to edit text in slowly moved across the screen all the time but in 9 everything was as it should be. Thanks for all tbe comments.

IE10 seems to have some bugs to work out. I wouldn't go live with it yet...give it time to mature, like any other MS update.

Agreed. I tried IE10 out on a couple test rigs and it turns out the JS used on our district website for the menu is horribly broken. Compatibility view mode works, but I wasn't about to explain to staff how to use it. Home users have also been calling in and complaining.

I've just pushed it out, our stations have Firefox as well and most of our stuff works. If we don't start using it the buggy code will never be fixed. The spellcheck alone is worth the upgrade.

I installed it on my workstation, and and uninstalled it later that day.

 

A lot of our internal systems have web consoles and I found they didn't work well with IE10 at all.

Avoided so far due to gpo changes. Moved from ie8 to 9 thought on last image refresh

Some updates on the bugs that were stopping us from deployiong:

 

• Microsoft have closed my Connect case on the spellcheck with redirected AppData bug: the problem is gone in the IE11 Developer Preview, so they consider it fixed. Of course, how long it will be before IE11 is released for Windows 7 is anyone's guess, but given the 6-month delay we had with IE10, I'm not holding my breath. At least the workaround works for us.
   
  
• The KB article on the "Open with Explorer" bug in SharePoint Online has mysteriously vanished, and has been replaced with a new KB article which includes a hotfix for Windows 7. It's worth noting that the hotfix is also required for IE11 as the problem is in Windows, not IE.
