After trailing Impero last year, I was impressed, teachers were impressed but managment wouldn't pay £2.5k for it.

What was really great was the reliability (we had netop5 it was forever failing) it had loads of features I didn't need or think was very good (printmanagement, violation capture) N.B. Impero technical support is great.

Anyhow I was looking at free and super cheap versions of classroom management software (iTALC, ABTutor, My vision Basic) I was wondering if anyone whos had or now has Impero could compare the major differences.

I suppose I just want it to be rock solid, remote see, broadcast, lock, blank, and deny web and maybe printing.

Similar situation here, we trialled Impero, were quite impressed with it but the headteacher didnt want to spend the money on something he deemed as 'classroom management'. I believe his argument was he'd rather spend the money training staff to better control their classroom which in truth i do understand and partly agree with.

We have stuck with AB Tutor and whilst not setting the world alight, for the price, its great in my experience :)

AB Tutor does the stuff your looking to do I believe, though I dont use it daily. I think you can free trial AB Tutor from their website so worth a go perhaps? :)

I described it as network management more than classroom management when trying to get funding for it (although also emphasising that it could replace Netsupport) and got it

And it's true...while teachers use it a lot, I'd wager that I use it a lot more. Without fail I use it every single day

well, ab tutor was 2.4k for a site licence and my vison basic works out 3k for 10 teachers. So it's iTALC or nothing.

We just have it installed in our IT Suites and on a server. 2.4k would be the equivalent of 14 single teacher licenses more or less so I guess if you have that many suites you want covering, that's what its going to cost :(

+1 for AB Tutor, works like a charm :)

We have Impero and in my opinion it's worth every penny we pay for it. Linked to applying control to student clients through Sophos EM we seem to have at last tied most things down that needed tying down.

We have recently invested in Impero after trialing ABTutor, Lanschool and a few others we found they just don't compare, the logging itself is invaluable as it gives you a log of every log-on, window opened, application used (and the path it was ran from), Screenshots of any violations that occurred and any printing they did whilst logged on.

The Impero support is also very good!
