It is a fun game for the cost, and there are enough mods out there that can change the experience, be it different truck styles, massive engines, heavy/wide loads that take route planning or just the expanded maps (Promod)

If you go the whole hog and do VR or TrackIR along with manual shifting then you possibly could even try driving a proper HGV without stalling it

Unlike FPS games there is often a more relaxed environment to chill after a work day

There is nothing wrong with the 360HP Man for long runs, just don't do the quarry pickups unless your running manual gears, in which case you can easily get out with the 20t digger if you keep it around 4mph

and be careful with the ramps coming off of the Euro tunnel, they can be a right pain with a heavy load @LiamHaith

wierdist thing about this game is I HATE DRIVING! (i own a motorbike, cars are just so slow!) yet i can play this for hours non stop!

How on earth have you guys hit 44 pages of Euro Truck sim? O.o

 

(I actually hear it's pretty good. And apparently fantastic with VR)

 

I don't think I'll buy this game, but it's amusing to hear you lot chatting away about it

It's definitely a game that you need to play to realise how addictive it is, I bought it cheap in a Steam sale (around £5 with all the DLC) and I think I've sunk over 50 hours into it, I find it quite calming to play and when you manage to reverse your truck and trailer into the tightest spot it's also highly rewarding.

Well you can watch the VOD from previous weeks on the site, but yesterday it took a while to sort out Promods and some of the trailer mods he was running so it was a bit delayed, and the week before contained an hour of photos and videos of a day trip to Geneva and Truckfest chat

 

But yes it is quite additive (just like Farm Sim.. can't believe I've logged over 46 hours in a week!!)

Well, I got rid of my MAN truck yesterday, upgraded to a nice Renault (Only a little more HP, but smaller fuel tank.. still it's beautiful) and spent 30k making it pretty.

 

Also managed to get a £400,000 Loan to upgrade the company, I used it to pay off the £100,000 loan to over my debts per day.. then used the remaining £300k to buy myself my Renault, Upgrade the Company, and hire my first driver! Giving him my original MAN.

 

He makes me £700 a day in profits... He's not even paid off the agency fees yet... He's useless.

I didn't think there was such a thing as a "nice Renault" I hate those things with a passion they are fuuuuugly!

 

The hired drivers always seem more trouble than they are worth to start with, especially when they aren't picking up return loads but make sure you set their points to go into long distance to start with and before long they'll be like a faithful workhorse just bringing in the £'s.

Can't say I like the Renault either, but my fleet is made up of at least 3 trucks from each manufacturer (but I prefer my Merc New Actros)

Okay, it's not nice. The interior looks horrible... but I painted and chromed it all up to at least hide the fact it's a Renault.

 

I just wanted more HP so the heavier loads didn't take an age at the Toll Bridges scattering France. Currently I'm only around £380,000 in debt... including what's in my wallet.

 

I'm starting to get 10,000E per job now though which is nice. I haven't made any use of my Long Haul yet though... I fear it's wasting points at low level over Fragile/High Value

If you put at least a point into Fragile & High Value it opens up extra jobs in the market, and they increase the XP and ££ you make from the job compared to normal ones.

 

Ignore economy driving until you have maxed out points in most of the other options. As I normally pick a 6 axle chassis for stability, I get a fuel tank that is only 800l and even that gets me through a 2000k trip without too much hassle.

 

Also Long distance means you get to increase your job delivery range by 250 miles etc so you get more ££ for the job compared to pottering around the local area, and different areas have better job markets.

 

Plus you have to visit towns to open up some jobs too/from them.

I already knew how it worked but it's always nice to get confirmation. Luckily France has many options of deliveries. I've been up to Holland, Luxembourg, and all over France thus far.

I really should give this game a go again. I did try it before but found the controls horrible, I vaguely remember something annoying me when trying to look left and right at junctions, think it was maybe really slow and had more then one thing drive into me because I couldn't see it.

 

Will have to stick an xbox controller on there and spend a bit of time setting it up properly then try again. Still think it wont be better than farming simulator though

I use the xbox 360 contoller and not had a problem with it. Manual shifting aswell.

Is it possible to have it so one button will look left, another will look right and when they are released it will auto center the view?

 

I could be wrong but I do think the issue I had was more about having to spend more time faffing with the camera view than with actually playing the game. It was a long time ago though so hard to remember exactly what I was doing wrong that put me off it

Number pad 4 will make you look left, 6 will look right and 5 will centre the view. There is an option to turn on camera turn in association to the way you turn the wheel but that just better for cornering not checking that it's safe to pull out in the first place!

Did a Paris -> London run yesterday... some guy kept bumping me from sitting too close behind me. Ended up (after repairs) turning a £9k mission into a -£3k. However my only member of staff is now level 2 long haul and fetched in £7k.. so I'm happy.

Reinstalled this last night and gave it a go with the mouse and keyboard to begin with. After killing a few other road users I set up the xbox one controller and it is much more enjoyable. Only made about £15k so far and hit lvl 2 doing the quick jobs but starting to see the appeal
