Need more specifics - is this data from an MIS? If so, which MIS?

SIMS for instance can produce reports in XML, which can in turn be transformed with XHTML in to a page viewable in a browser, so it'd just be case of scheduling that report to run at pre-defined intervals on your web server.

Other MIS' may have other utilities to do this.

Sorry wrote request out and posted before finishing

What we want is something that will read from a txt file some values

IE

House1 456

House2 123

House3 5000

And then display a chart

All we have to do then is upload the new figures on a weekly/monthly etc and it will display new chart.

Also

we want to show attendance figures

House1 98%

House2 94%

House3 99.5%

Again on weekly or monthly basis.

Hope that is a bit more Clear.

@rama1712 - it'd really help if we knew which MIS you were using as there may well be someone here who already knows a way of doing this without blindly writing code (that's a much bigger ask then you might think!)

Yep We would have the file on our server and the nominated staff would upload the updated file.

And then a new graph or chart or something woould update on webpage.

It would be more simple to have this automated - sims will happily give you a CSV export on a regular basis with command reporter. All the webserver needs to do is pick up that file.

That would mean having to input that data into SIMS in the first place. If the OP doesn't use SIMS for housepoints (we don't), then a manual text file is simple enough to deal with.

That was the reason for all the questions, needed to work out where the data was coming from!

Next question - is the website you'll be uploading this to based on any VLE, or is it something that has been created (and is maintained) in house?

I can create this for you later on, just started a new job so don't want to be seen doing other things, yet!

So, going from your example (and if you can confirm), staff will update a .txt file in a format following:

For Example:

Romeo 344

Juliette 411

OptimusPrime 500

You want this data to be read and displayed as a table with the house name being a header, and the house count aligned below.

Then, take this data and generate a graph.

Anything else/I've missed?

Edit - You also want the same for attendance figures, do you want to do it by percentage or a number that is then converted into a percentage? I mean, if the house leaders are required to create a percentage from a number, the site could do this for them. Otherwise if they already know the figure, then there's no issue.

Is the page going to be embedded into a VLE (with an existing design, so this would be a blank white page), or would whoever view it as a standalone page? In such case I'll use a very simple template to center everything, then you can edit as required.

Cheers.

If it's in XML and you are happy to change the format, then Fusion Charts provide a great set of free flash graphs that will do exactly what you want and are easy to integrate.

Has anyone got Java, html, asp, flash code that will show house points/attendance figures etc. on a web page

Your best bet would be either a JavaScript library designed for charts (HighCharts (examples), jqxChart (examples) etc.) or just use Excel Web App (examples) / Google Spreadsheets. The screenshot below is a graph I created in less than 30 seconds on my Google Drive. When you update the figures, the graph will get updated automatically.

P.S. Please don't use Java or Flash. :)

+1 this. After thinking about it, I was going to recommend using something like Google Spreadsheets.
