We had this some time ago and to be honest it turned out to be lack of space. Not sure if ntbackup creates large temp files or similar, but as I say at first glance there appeared to be sufficient space - but there wasn't!

This was our scenario with this error message anyway. Not saying yours is the same, but I would definitely try larger media if possible to rule it out.

I had a similar thing backing up to a USB caddy. I could access the backup drive, manipulate files and all looked fine. But NTBackup failed. I swapped out the caddy and it's right as rain. Do you have another backup device you can try?

How big is the backup file getting? Could it be running into a maximum file size problem on the filesystem of the NAS?

Conversely, are there any large files in the source that could be too big for NTBackup?

Is the drive mapped ? Or are you backing up using \\blahblahserver\share ?

Tested with both mapped and UNC

Current backup of H: Drive going fine (touch wood)

Seems specific to the D: drive, will investigate further.
