Some have spice, some don’t. Some have sugar on top, some don’t My Mum’s family recipe: 8oz Flour 4oz Margarine 3oz Sugar 3oz Mixed dried Fruit 1 Egg Method: Add the flour and butter into a bowl and rub together with finger tips. Add the sugar and mixed fruit. Mix these together. Then add the egg and mix thoroughly. Roll the mixture out to a quarter inch thick. Heat a griddle (Mine is cut from half inch thick power station boiler plate!) or heavy based frying pan and grease very lightly. Cut the pastry into circles Cook until light brown on both sides.

Happy St David's day to anyone in Wales - or with Welshness in them for anyone who is interested (probably no-one) my Mum was born in Wales - by accident - probably the only time she was ever early according to my Dad Oh - and so was my daughter was I/we lived there for about 15 years - hence working in Welsh schools for most of that time
witch Posted March 1, 2020 Posted March 1, 2020 My mum was from a Welsh family - Newtown in Powys, but they had moved to Shrewsbury by the time she was born. Dad was English but moved to Port Talbot when he was 8 and was more Welsh than the Welsh. Dad had little family and mum had 4 sisters so we were brought up in a very Welsh environment
