DFSR - Any way to check progress of initial replication?

Hi,

 

Im just setting up DFS namespace with DFSR, its started the initial replication job but have a feeling its going to take all week to copy to all of our five sites.

 

Is there any way to get a progress report or something to show how far its got?

 

Cant seem to find any with searching.

Assuming 2008 server or greater

 

Administrative Tools > DFS Management > Replication > $Replication_group_name > Create Diagnostic Report > Health Report.

 

Also look into dfsdiag on the command line.

I hate DFS!! I've never seen it work properly!

 

I've got a situation at the moment whereby it has been working ok for a while but, for no good reason, theres a difference of around 60GB between three servers which should be replicating to each other over three remote sites.

One of the servers was max'ed out at 100% CPU usage this morning so a restart of the DFS service resolved that and from what i can see, DFS is reasonably happy again but i think its going to take a while for it to sort itself out!

I have to say I love DFS, as already mentioned use the reporting in the GUI or, as I do, use the dfsutil with the commands you want in a batch file/s, I just double click that to check topology is all in sync and to check with the replication partners. To be fair, when Ive set a few primary schools up with a single server I use DFS, makes replacing with a new server in 5 years much easier if all policies point to \\domain\share rather than \\server\share

I was going to try and replace my DFS'd fileservers with storage replica but setting up my hyper-v servers is taking longer than I thought so I've moved it to my Christmas work.

I've only had one problem with DFS (after initial replication) but that coincided with a raid card failure so I blamed it on that

Do you have it fully patched if its 2012 R2 as there was a bug introduced the other month on 2012 R2 DFS Role that caused that issue, it was patched in September I think it was or you could get the hot fix yourself and apply as we hit it and was annoying. As a general thing DFS is great as long as you monitor it and use it sensibly things like check your staging area is sized correctly and do that frequently and monitor for backlogs and fix issues if they occur
