@X-13 can let us know what the PS 4 is like once it is delivered which should be soon ie a month or two :D

That's the plan. :)

I wish there was backwards compatibility... there's a few PS3 games I've never played. [because I dont have a PS3.]

Honestly congrats on winning the PS 4, not jealous at all and you deserved it and won it fair and square :D

I have a PS 3 but got other stuff to pay etc so won't be for a while until I can get one, by which time it may be a moot point anyway as may be a PS 5 or something else :D

To people moaning about the 720p and 900p etc

You do know that there is no difference to the human eye between 1080p and 720p. Tests were done on a group of 500 people in London by Toshiba, they had people with glasses, contacts, normal vision etc, played a bluray film (a 5 minute clip) and a clip from a TV show which was filmed and broadcast in full HD, played both at 720p and 1080p. More people thought the 720p was better than 1080p, but then admitted it was a pure guess. So tell me why it matters when the eyes cant detect it?

Then why have they released the Asus and similar 4K HD Screens etc ? Am not debating either way. 720 and 1080p aren't really that different. Although if you have a large screen will you see a bit of difference quality wise between the two ?

LOL, You do know that info is based on the size of the screen and how close you sit?

Apples 'retina' display is nothing fancy, its simply the distance relative to screensize that pixels are no longer visible.

The human eye can easily tell the difference between 720p (921,600 pixels) and 1080p (2,073,600 pixels) at living room distances above 37". Just like you can tell the difference on a 1080p monitor. Denial: It's amazing the amount of people that have suddenly gone blind.

The following gif is from BF4 720p vs 900p (45% more pixels). You'll need to view this at 1080p to see what it'll look like (both will upscale to 1080).

This next one is a visual guide of COD resolutions over the years.

To squeeze more money out of the gullible punters who must have the latest tech whether they can tell the difference or not :-)

How far away were they and how big was the screen?

I don't know which one you're implying is better, but I like the PS4 one more.

The Xbone one has sharper grass [and other textures], but it doesn't actually look GOOD. The PS4 one seems slightly blurred [on the edges of objects] but it looks more real.

I think the test was on a 50inch tv and 9ft from the screen. I will try to find the link when I am home later.

So basically, JUST at the point where 1080p becomes [possibly] noticeable.

You can see the pixels (or jaggies), this is mostly evident with thin lines.

Apparently the XBO version is getting a patch because a certain level of AA was missing off that build.

PS4 also has higher detailed models closer (particularly mid range). 3D Games often make each ingame model 3-4 times (close, medium, far, super far, horizon), making it less detailed as it moves into the background. This Z depth for each detail level can be scaled in or out dependent on processing power. Here's where the PC can be flexible dependent on your graphics card. GTA5 distance models are fantastic, but they are evidently close on PS3/360, the PC version (when it comes out) should have the close models going to the point they are no longer visible (if it was apple it'll be called retina modelling). Resolution is a core difference in why PC games look so much better than 360/PS3, the last gen didn't have the processing power to push that many pixels around without the detriment to the lighting/model detail/textures.

I've got a 42" 720p TV and a 50" 1080p TV. With PS3 and PC it is really, really easy to tell the difference on both even upto 10ft away.

I just looked again... oh god, that crane.

Xbone - hot pile of steaming pixels

PS4 - Glorious digital representation of a physical object.

I can tell the difference between 720p and 1080p videos on my PC. :p

It's because you're close.

If it's far enough away, they all look the same. [480, 720, 1080, 4k]

The furthest away from my PC I can be is just over 2 metres - any more than that and I would have to go outside. :)

From that distance I can still spot a 4k video (even when it is downscaled to 2560x1440) so it does appear that your graph is correct.

It's based on actual science.

If it was MY graph it wouldn't make sense.

Media Extender isn't supported on xboxone. Mr Nelson didn't know if DLNA or MP3 was supported on xboxone.

Confirmed!

Yes, the Xbox One can play CDs and will support DLNA streaming

Sony announced some details on things the Playstation 4 can and can't do, and I had sent a question over to Microsoft about whether the Xbox One would be able to beat those features. I've just now received an answer and, yes, the Xbox One can play audio CDs.

The system is also DLNA compatible, and they're in the process of being certified. As for mp3 playback… well, that's kind of a mixed bag. The system is a Play To receiver, so you'll be able to stream your content to the Xbox One using any Play To supported devices such as a Windows 7, 8, or 8.1 enabled PC, Windows Phone, etc.

You'll also, of course, be able to stream music through an Xbox Music Pass subscription.

So it doesn't seem like there is going to be a way to simply import your music files, but you will be able to stream the content you already own, hopefully use it in custom mixes for your game, and the device will be DLNA compatible. Audio CDs, for the people who care, will be supported.

So there you go.

Good that they've clarified early, wonder if it'll play MKVs? With a BR disk you'll also get Cinavia (can be a pain on PS3).

Not a deal breaker for me personally, certainly not worth the extra £80. TV, Phone, Tablet, PS3, Chromecast, Laptop and PC can all stream.

What Cinavia a feature Sony was kind enough to bring to the PS3 in a stealth firmware update?

Lots of my things can stream, I want to consolidate them to one device that does it all. DNLA PC server handles all the formatting issues with ease.

Also the ability to play music on my own games is pretty big for me, I cant think of the last time I listened to a game soundtrack (esp true of driving games) for more then an hour before streaming my pc's music. MS have not confirmed that yet though but I really hope its there.

The fact sony basically wants you to pay to watch video or listen to music (they offer 2 services you pay for each) rather then locally just smacks of them trying to get that £80 for you to get access to stuff you own/have, thanks sony...

The irony they now charge for everything per month when the last war all ps fanboys could say is how they would NEVER pay for multplayer, now they are just supping it up while being quiet.

Also if you buy into the full sony coolaid and buy video + music + multiplayer I wonder how much it is per month in total? I suspect it could be a lot more then I would want to spend JUST to watch/listen on PS4 (oh Vita too if you were one of the 60 people that bought one)

Cinavia is mandatory in BR players since 2012, older internet connected BR players also got this update. It'll be on xboxone.

I wasn't happy about paying for multiplayer when you got nothing else, but the free games on PS+ has been worth it. I've had more than my fair share of games for the £30 in the last year: AC3, Farcry3, Metal Gear Rising, NFS:MW, Battlefield3, Demon Souls, Payday, Uncharted 3, Saints row 3, ICO and Shadow of the Colossus, Xcom, Mass Effect 3, Sleeping Dogs, Red Dead. There's about 100 others that I've not had the time for.

Older devices could optionally have it added in future updates but were not required too, sony were kind though and added it in.

This also only applies to certain films from certain sources, DNLA has a million legit uses too where Cinivia wont affect it.

Looks like CoD may have few issues with 1080p framerates: BBC News - Call of Duty: Ghosts PS4 faces frame-rate complaints they may get it fixed though.

Seens a few gifs where the PC version (on a titan) is struggling in MP. Huge drop to from 60FPS to 30FPS. Looks like they've been lazy to churn out in time for their yearly release. Who'd a though the COD devs would be lazy eh?!

I think we're gonna see quite alot of that until atleast next year :/

There are no CoD optimised drivers for nvidia yet so if it only drops frames its doing well. I expected an update before release (at least non WHQL/beta) but nothing so far. Its a pretty general rule that each new major game needs new drivers before it works properly. At least PC users were not promised 60fps stable play and PC users generally accept day one issues more especially drivers. I am trying to recall if the titan is actually a dual card as opposed to a single processor, I think it is which means it must use SLI mode basically which has a lot of drivers issues when new games come out especially with performance drops (I had sli). The whole point of consoles was you avoid the pc issues though as they just have to test the console.

A key pillar of the Call of Duty experience has always been rock-solid 60 frames per seconds gameplay. On Xbox 360, Ghosts maintains this mandate. The PlayStation 4 version, however, has noticeable technical issues, sometimes slowing to a crawl, particularly during set-piece moments with multiple effects. One specific moment I was able to replicate multiple times on PS4 was a campaign scene that ran smoothly on Xbox 360 and PS3, while the game chugged On PlayStation 4. These frame rate hitches happen throughout the campaign on PS4 and, in a series known for its Hollywood-inspired bombast, it detracted from the experience.

I wonder how the Xbox One will do on the 12th when its reviews appear.

EDIT: It appears the latest non WHQL are CoD drivers as well as BF4, who knows with SLI/Titan though.
