Guest Guest Posted March 30, 2011 Posted March 30, 2011 Pioneer something or other Amp Mission 753 speakers Event TR8 Studio Monitors All connected up to a Allen & Heath xone 92 mixer, Rane and M-audio soundcards, and Stanton decks JVC getting on for 15 years old system for normal computer use (you know the type where one youtube video will be very quiet so you turn the volume right up, then the next one comes on at volume notch 11 and you start to cry as your speakers howl and your ears bleed)
cpjitservices Posted March 30, 2011 Author Posted March 30, 2011 the system I've got now is the best one I've had so far and I've had a lot of different kit and I've spent a fair few quid too, the tape deck in the picture alone cost me £150 some years ago and sounds as good now as it did then, amp definitely wasn't cheap either. i did have a Pioneer CT-W606DR tape deck that got nicked that cost me nearly £300 new as it was Digital.

(best system I ever had) Still have the Cyrus and LS3/5As but they've been boxed for years. Do most of my listening with a pair of Stax 202 headphones. Never work in a hifi shop - you get to try too many toys and you inevitably end up buying lots of it... Forgot, also have an Arcam D280 tuner somewhere, MF DVD1, a Marantz CD recorder whose model number escapes me, had two Aiwa cassette decks aeons ago and a Sony one with Dolby S. In my back room I have a simple NAD L40 linked up to my PC, with a pair of B&W 601 speakers - sounds really nice a clear. In my front room I have a Sony STR-DB870 QS surround sound amplifier, Pioneer DV-636D DVD player, B&W 603 floor standing speakers for the fronts, KEF Q95 Centre speaker, AEL 400W subwoofer and currently no rear speakers. Both systems are linked so I can have the same source playing in both rooms should I want it. I got rid of my seperate CD player and tape deck ages ago, as I pretty much listen to all my music from the PC these days and the NAD L40 has a CD player built in should I want to use it. I did have a pretty nice record deck to go with it, but it got dropped and badly damaged when I moved, and I never replaced it. Sold it on e-bay as spare or repair in the end. Pretty happy with the sound in both rooms and it's far too loud for a small terraced house. I probably won't change any of it now until it eventually goes wrong, I've owned it all for about 8 years now thou and it's still going strong! Mike Edited March 30, 2011 by maniac

cpjitservices Posted March 30, 2011 Author Posted March 30, 2011 lol wouldn't quite match my system...., I had a Pioneer PD-S707 yeas ago ad just fancy another one - I also regret ever getting rid of my old Technics SL-P990 CDP that was an absolute beast which had 4 DACS running on t's main internal circuts - now that was a sweeet sounding piece of kit.

It's not too much to ask is it? I've got a media PC as part of my hi-fi setup, but the sheer amount of time it takes to boot makes it impractical for playing music (coupled with the fact you have to have the TV on to see what you are doing! If we could just have the same kind of MP3 player revolution that swept CD Walkmen aside in hi-fi seperate format I'll be happy. Oh! And you must be abe to transfer from USB memory stick on to it as well!!

My media PC is on all day anyway - so thats not a prob linked up to a uP&P NAS for sound & video

pcstru Posted March 31, 2011 Posted March 31, 2011 My 'office' at home has a pair of Linn Keilidh's being driven Bi-Amped by a pair of Quad 405's fed from an old Quad 34. Sources are a Linn Majik CD, an iPod dock and a Linn Axis/Akito/K9 combo. Living room is an AV setup with a Onkyo TX NR708 driving a pair of mission 753's at the front, quad 12L's at the rear an HK centre and 2 small denon speakers (left over from the old AV amp) set up as 'front height'. There's a BK Monolith giving some extra oomph on the base which is run through an antimode room EQ. It's a bit overkill for Corrie but with something like Iron Man on DVD, it shines (or causes the windows to rattle).

achedgy Posted March 31, 2011 Posted March 31, 2011 I've got a bit of a mixed setup at home, downstairs is a Sonos setup, in the kitchen I've got a zp80 linked to a NAD amplifier up in the roof connected to some B&W ceiling speakers. In the lounge is another Zp80 connected to a sony surround sound amp, only got it to connected to a pair of kef bookshelf speakers at the moment. But means the ps3 & sky box can link in as well. Got a Sonos touchscreen controller downstairs, but mainly use iphone to control it. Music is stored on server upstairs and connected via sonos zonebridge. Upstairs I've also got a squeezebox for the bedroom and Harman Kardon Sound Sticks II on the main desktop
