Apologies if this has been asked recently. I'm after a new mobile to replace my aging Xperia Z3. I don't need all the bells and whistles like fingerprint sensors etc, waterproof is definitely an advantage though. budget around £200, what do people recommend? I've been looking at things like the moto G5/G6 range but had Sony's for years and they've treat me reasonably well.

Does it have to be new?

You can pickup refurbished Pixel 1 for about £220 ish. Straight from Google and guaranteed future security updates.

Nah doesn't have to be new, the one I currently have is my better half's old one after my screen smashed.

I'd probably go with a Moto G6 if it was me. The hardware seems decent for the money and the bezel free screen design looks bang up to date. It's only just been released so I'd expect you'll see at least a couple of years worth of version updates for Android as well. Edited by flyinghaggis

Google state the end of version updates for the Pixel 1st gen is October this year and end of security updates the same time next year. I'd be nervous about spending £200+ on a phone that may not be supported at all in less than 18 months time.

The original Pixel phones officially support Project Treble so you could continue to get security updates via third-party custom ROMs.

The other benefit to the Pixel is the free unlimited original-quality cloud storage for photos and videos.
