[bug/error] Today's Post/What's New error

When I click on the 'Today's Posts' I get the screen saying I can try again in 5 seconds.

 

everything else seems to work.

 

I have cleared cache, cookies and even stored passwords

 

Logged out and closed browser tried again in both IE and Chrome but get same issue.

I think it was a temporary problem while I was apply a fix. Let me know if it happens again.

Is it happening for you now (as in last 5 minutes)? does the url change from do=getnew&contenttype=vBForum_Post to searchid=XXXXX ?

It *seems* okay for me but I am recreating the node anyway just incase, should take about 10 minutes.

Hmm seems to match up with the new node. Tell me if the url stops redirecting to searchid={XXXX} as thats a sign for it failing.

As mentioned in the other thread I am still having issues, touch wood the Today's Post button works ok for me but the New Posts, is playing up and not showing anything. It was resolved once you did the fix the other night but is still not changing to searchid=xxxxxx

Don't know if its just me, but whenever I click the What's new button, I get a message saying

 

"Sorry, there are no new posts to view.

 

You may search for posts updated during the previous 24 hours, here"

 

Then, if I click the 'here' button, I get

 

"This forum requires that you wait 5 seconds between searches. Please try again in 2 seconds."

 

So, I try again, this time waiting even a few minutes, I still get the same 'wait 2 more seconds' issue. Is it just me?

 

In case it makes a difference, I'm logged into the site and using chrome as my browser...

I have redone a few nodes, has that resolved the problem? Not found a permanent fix/cause yet though.

Another day but sadly no closer to the solution just yet. Those with the issue, do you have the mobile app/tapatalk at all and if so iOS or Android?

i get this issue too, i use the app with android aswell.

One solution vBulletin is suggesting is database thread read tracking but it means the tracking is 100% accurate and the what's new page gets pretty large pretty quickly.

 

Last time we enabled it the users hated it but it gets around a lot of the problems.

I have switched our thread marking mode away from cookies based for now, I suspect this will help but I also think there may be an outcry...

Not exactly, they were never marked as read as such as it used a combo of cookie/last visit time before to decide.

 

I think I may have found the cause, browser cache! we send a http code when there are no results (410) and the no-cache header part was not applying so I think it was being cached. We will see but I have hacked in a fix.

Yeah if its within a short enough time. Currently its using db marking so mobile app and site etc should all remain in sync.

I was called out yesterday and on return today found a bunch of old read threads showing in Settings>Subscribed Threads with New Posts. Clicking Mark All Read just seems to refresh the page. Reading the old threads does remove them. (Luckily only 30).

Where was the mark read link you used?

I switched thread tracking mode this morning to db based which would have caused the threads to reappear.
