Erk, for some reason it's stopped letting my domain accounts from logging in. I think it authenticates just fine but says the account does not have permission... So fine, troubleshooting away, log in using local account....poo.. I've got the password, I wrote it down but not the log in user! I'm unsure of the format.. The server is called "beamvc.dcc-sch-4505.local" so my login should be admin, administrator,[email protected] but it says invalid credentials?! should it be @vsphere.local still? I also tried the beamvc.dcc-sch-4505\username but that gets me an invalid as well. I tried logging on to the console using root but the password isn't accepted... I'll assume it's not the same as the default admin account.. I don't want to rebuild this blooming thing!

Have been using the free version of VMware ESXi for a couple of years, and their marketing strategy has paid off as we now are moving to Essentials Plus. So it is a bit new to me. I gather I need the VMware vCenter™ Server installed somewhere, and have downloaded the iso and have the serial to hand. Does the VMware vCenter™ Server actually host servers? or can it run in a virtual machine? I'm assuming it's just there to direct the ESXi servers, and I use the standard Vsphere client to connect to it... ? I would be grateful for any info from someone more clued up than me. TIA

Hi all, I'm trying to access my vSphere Web Administration Console working to connect to a vSphere Server running on an ESXi 5.1 host. In IE11 am getting the dreaded 'There is a problem with this website's security certificate' error. I had this working last week and its stopped. The servers running fine - I can access the vSphere Server using vSphere Client but not the web console. Can anyone tell me the method of getting the certificate to work? I've followed a few guides and imported rui.crt and cacert.pem from 'C:\ProgramData\VMware\vSphere Web Client\ssl' (on the server) but to no avail. Done this on the server running vSphere Server and on my local machine. On the server I get 'Continue to this website (not recommended)' , after that a blank window. On my PC I get 'There is a problem with this website’s security certificate' and no option to continue. VMWare kb's say to use a cert from a trusted authority but there's no need for that as its only running on my Intranet. Please help Thanks in advance

Hi all, Hopefully someone has this working somewhere! We've had loads of power outages and a sub station go bang recently, generators on the street, and its playing havoc with my hosts not shutting down cleanly - or starting up again! I have a PCNS 4.2 virtual appliance that just will not talk nicely with vCenter or my (2) hosts. PCNS logs seemingly state all is well .... this is after a reboot this morning .... but VCenter says otherwise.... I've tried setting up a common user on vCenter, each host, and PCNS but I can't get them to play together. At the moment I'm trying the single sign on account but I get the same error as I do with the common account. I'm not using AD authentication in vCenter and don't particularly want to if I can avoid it. Any idea's anyone ?? Hair is being yanked out by the fistful! Cheers in advance

I'm having problem with my Windows Server 2003 x86 VM, in the middle of installing IIS server, What I did is that i insert the CD into the ESXi host and then from my VSphere client I point to use the host CD-ROM drive and it hangs, What I've done: 1. Force restart the VM and it stuck in 95% of restart process. 2. in the SSL console of ESXi: services.sh restart 3. re-register the VM from datastore view into the VCenter (with the same name VMWS05) and it hangs with Status "In Progress", after 20+ minutes it came with the following error: An error occurred while communicating with the remote host. and the VM is not registered in the VCenter still. 4. tried to kill the process like the following but still stuck ? ~ # ps -ef | grep vmws05 3854821 14064 Worker#0:Win2003x86_vmws05 /bin/vmx 14071 vmm0:Win2003x86_vmws05 ~ # kill -9 14071 ash: cannot kill pid 14071: No such process ~ # ps -ef | grep vmws05 3854821 14064 Worker#0:Win2003x86_vmws05 /bin/vmx 14071 vmm0:Win2003x86_vmws05 ~ # kill -9 14064 ash: cannot kill pid 14064: No such process ~ # kill -9 3854821 ash: cannot kill pid 3854821: No such process ~ # ps -ef | grep vmws05 3854821 14064 Worker#0:Win2003x86_vmws05 /bin/vmx 14071 vmm0:Win2003x86_vmws05 any kind of help would be greatly appreciated. Note: VMware ESXi 4.0.0 build 244038 VMwre VCenter Server 4.0.0 build 208111 Thanks.

Hi All, I’ve got VMware vsphere essentials license but somehow i cannot make the two VCenter talking to each other for migration and template deployment across two different VCenter. and so i open up the PDF brochure from VMware for the upgrade to the next level of VCenter where i can use more than three ESXi hosts URL: http://www.vmware.com/files/pdf/vsphere_pricing.pdf my questions are: 1. if i buy vcenter standard edition, from what i know is that the licensing is calculated per CPU sockets and it is already included VCenter mgmt. server forthe ESXi to join ? 2. if i buy the stand alone VCenter Server 4 USD $ 4995 does this means i can join as many ESXi host as possible since the price is just one off ? my current 2x VSphere Essentials license will become useless after I take either one of those options. My goal here is to be able to manage more than 3x ESXi hosts within single VCenter which consists of: ESXi01 – 2x Intel Quadcore ESXi02 – 2x Intel Quadcore ESXi03 – 1x Intel Quadcore ESXi04 – 2x Intel Hexcore ESXi05 - 1x Intel Core2Duo can anyone please help me about this licensing please ? Thanks.
