So we have just received a load of laptops from the LA, which is great, but we want to install the desktop version of Office 365, for which we need the Admin password. The DfE won't give it to me as i'm not the Technical contact, ut won't tell me who the Technical contact is! I'm assuming it's someone at our LA, but no clue who it might be!

Has anyone hit the same issue? And has anyone been able to track down their Tech contact?

Cheers

If you've got them from the LA, they are the technical contact as they own the device and not the school (unless they have transferred ownership but sounds like they haven't)

So the student has to use the laptop as provided with Office Apps.

Our Head contacted the LA, i got the passwords the same day

It depends on the LA.

Some are passing all support on to the schools so they need the passwords, others are not which is fine as it means at the end of the scheme duration either they will take them back or pass them on to the school at that point.

It's a shame that they've provided laptops designed to work with cloud based apps, but no Wi-Fi routers to enable access to the internet!

On the portal when "ordering" laptops, you could also order the 4g MiFi devices as well to provide internet access.

Not sure of our LA laptops will come with one, but as a MAT we had 12 available to us so put them on the order with our laptop allocation.

Hi there, how did you manage to log in as LOCAL ADMIN on the laptops? The ones we have they locked and goes staright to localuser desktop/screen.

@Shan_uk it depends.

If you are the named contact for your Academy you can contact XMA with the serial number and they can provide the passwords if they came via that part of the scheme.

If they are provided direct from the LA for students who fall under their umbrella of reasons (Looked after, has social worker etc) then it entirely depends on the LA. Our local one happily provided us details even though technically they are not school property. Other LA's refuse to provide it and instead will be dealing with issues.

Thanks. we do have the Admin passwords. My question is how do i log in as ADMIN on those laptops. As mentioned once powered on, goes straight to localuser account. No username or password are prompted. Thanks
