You should be able to right click the user in RMMC and select Move (or something like that) from the context menu, then select the destination. In the event that it fails (which is not uncommon), use Windows Explorer to move the user home folder from H:\rmusers\non-teaching staff\work\etc to H:\rmusers\teaching staff\work\etc, then run a healthcheck. It's also not uncommon for the local cached profile to still be pointing the user shell folder %Personal% (ie My Docs) property to the old folder location, regardless of whether the RMMC successfully completed the move or not. In which case, reset the profile and delete local copies of the profile on the workstation that the user most commonly uses.

Just ordered some SDU400D from Probrand for just under £4.

We use it here, admittedly only by a handful of staff though. We allocated the MSI out to the workstations, staff can just store the .ovt files (and associated media) on a network share.

Timer-controlled power to IT suites

We do that too, but I'm looking for solutions that will the computers off completely so they're not unnecessarily drawing power overnight, school holidays etc. -
Timer-controlled power to IT suites

Yeah, that's the sort of thing I'm interested in. What sort of timers/management are you using to manage the PIR input and timing? Have you had that setup long, how do you find it? Have you addressed the problem of non-users passing through (cleaners for example). Am I right in understanding that the one-hour timeout doesn't apply during school hours? -
Timer-controlled power to IT suites

Thanks for the reply, but not really what I'm looking for. -
Just wondering what other schools do (or are thinking of doing) about powering off IT suites completely? We do power the computers off remotely (beyondexec) but are looking at how to reduce power leaking overnight. I guess I'm looking for some sort of industrial timer switch to sit between the breakers and the sockets, with a schedule, override options, and preferably some sort of audible warning prior to poweroff. Does anyone use something like this at the moment?

I've found the opposite here. While running the older version, I found they would go into a semi-permanent sleep (ie on but no response) and need to be power cycled. They seem to have been much better with the later version. When you say it doesn't work, can you not get anything to work (ie wol/shutdown), or is it the configuration that doesn't work?

The Perfect RM OS and Package Deployment?
meastaugh1 replied to andyturpie's topic in O/S Deployment
Other possible causes include, the default CU key has changed the User Shell Folders Personal value to N:\, causing the installation to try and contact a drive mapping which doesn't exist in the local system context. Or, we've also seen it intermittently fail because software restrictions policy has incorrectly blocked it. I assumed this is caused by App Agent running while security settings are being applied. RM never manage to identify the cause or fix this. Whatever the cause, it should be reported in the Windows Application event log on the affected workstations. -
If you can't silence it using the web interface, can't you reboot it and silence it from the pre-boot interface?

I did have a go with Shutdownertron which is a nice start at a de-centralised solution, but wasn't mature/comprehensive enough a solution for me. I run beyondexe in a few shutdown scripts. We start shutting down all idle computers (ie not logged on) from 3.15, and repeat that schedule every 15 mins so that as users logoff, the computer will be shutdown shortly afterwards. Then at 18:00 we issue a shutdown regardless of whether users are logged on. All initiated shutdowns have a wait period of about 15 mins, and users are able to abort them.

No, we still use RMMC for managing user accounts atm, just recall having seen it before and looked quite useful. Have you and had problems then?

How about Mikey Magic's Web Site - Active User Manager for Windows 2000 & 2003 Active Directory (AD)

The RM Management Console does (or at least should) automatically setup user home and profile paths. Not sure I understand your second paragraph. You do know that the RM Management Console creates the user accounts in active directory, right?

Thanks. So I concluded that I needed third party software to do this. After some searching around I came across QS Disclaimer - the simple but powerful disclaimer system which seems to be a cost effective solution.

I have a disclaimer setup using the event sink method, but I believe I need to create a second SMTP connector to ensure mail from Outlook has the disclaimer attached. I know the sink is working because automated mail sent from appliances and software (such as our terastation and backupexec) have the disclaimer attached. I've had a search but can't find any guidance on this. I can figure out how to add a connector, but not sure how to get one connector to route to the other. I suspect I need to add the second connector and set it's cost lower than the first so that mail from clients will go to the second connector, then I need to route it to the first to be forwarded on to our Grid's mail relay. Can someone advise or point me in the right direction to relay mail from one connector to the other? Thanks

To clarify, the attributes column stores multiple bits as a byte. Not sure if that's the correct term, but it stores multiple settings as a single value. Eg: Setting A=1 Setting B=2 Setting C=4 Setting D=8 So a value of 11 would mean setting A, B and D were enabled. Component Table (Windows)

Also check that the attributes value of the component (to which the file belongs) does not include the permanent value (16) which would also cause the file to reside following an uninstall.

We have typically used Canon for inkjet across the site, but have found the OEM carts becoming evermore prohibitively expensive. So to try something different I bought a couple of HP OfficeJet Pro 8500 AiO last week. These have on-board ethernet and one of the models includes wireless on-board. Once the introductory carts are wasted, you have the option of purchasing XL carts, which consist of 49ml black carts and 16 ml per CMY cart. HP Officejet Pro 8500 All-in-One Printer series Small & Medium Business HP currently have cashback on this unit (£50) which brought the purchase cost down to £100 per unit. The offer's only mentioned on the SMB site, not the consumer, so don't know if there's anything in the T&C that prevents consumers claiming? Warranty is also extended to 3 years atm. We've also had an HP OfficeJet Pro 8000 for a few months which seems to be pretty much the same printer without the AiO.

Fyi software restrictions are a Windows, not exclusively CCx feature.

My setup is a single WSS server using the SQL internal database, so all on one box. The SIMS and WSS servers have a gigabit connection and are connected to the same switch. I'm not having any performance issues with Sharepoint or SIMS besides this.
-
Alternatives include the free solution: WSS and MOSS Home Drive - Release: WSS and MOSS Home Drive 1.2 which has some limitations And the commerical solution that will work inside and outside school (assuming it is internet exposed): SalamanderSoft Limited - My Documents & My Shared Documents Web Parts : Access to your home folder and shares through SharePoint

Yeah sorry, I thought that might cause confusion, I appreciate that issue was separate from the one in the opening post. I've disabled auto-close on all the SQL databases (this seemed to sort Sharepoint out when I initially came across these issues pre-SLG). Is there any way to get SLG to pick up the pace with first load of web parts, or is this a by-design thing? Thanks
