  1. a shame it doesn't appear to run on WSS3.
  2. Can any recommend an affordable trainer in London/Herts offering courses in the MCSE range, 70-290, 70-291 etc (or 2008 equivalent, if they are as I suspect, obsolete)? Thanks.
  3. I'm pretty sure that our eees (with default Xandros) connected to WPA-PSK TKIP, no problem.
  4. Symantec AVCE If this list is anything to go by you should be fine with Nod Terminal Server and Citrix Compatible Anti-Virus Software According to the Nod manuals, there seems to be TS options, so I would assume that there is TS support.
  5. I just use our usual AV on the terminal servers and it works fine. As long as your users are sufficiently locked down then I suspect the risk of exposure from viruses, spyware and the like should be minimal.
  6. Isn't an MSI a bit overkill for changing one registry key value (HKLM\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Terminal Server\fDenyTSConnections=0)? Was there a reason for not using an adm?
  7. How about an interactive logon message with group policy?
  8. Could it possibly be a duplex mismatch? Are both switches at either end Netgear? Both set to Auto-1000 or equivalent?
  9. Np. Yeah, I was thinking the same. Surely, if they will insist on sending copies of confidential data, there must be a more secure method than using CityLink.
  10. "Sandown Health Center on the Isle of Wight sent the disk, which contained information on current and past patients at a GP surgery dating back more than 10 years, to a London software company to check that the tape was working effectively and could provide back-up in case of emergency."
  11. You could try using the method RM use on CC3 to disable the keyboard and mouse in safe mode by deleting these reg keys: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Control\SafeBoot\Minimal\{4D36E96F-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318} HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Control\SafeBoot\Minimal\{4D36E96B-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}
  12. As mentioned TS support was brought in with v5. Functionality and stability hasn't been great in early versions of 5, but it's certainly getting better. If you haven't had an e-mail reply, it may be worth reporting it as a bug on the forum, or giving them a call. I've also noticed the missing logging on the TS, but haven't really pursued it as I've been more concerned with some stability issues.
  13. We host our intranet/extranet on WSS(v3). I went with sharepoint a couple of years ago with a view to adding the SIMS web parts at a later stage (which will be this year). I look after it, it isn't much of an overhead day-to-day, but the upgrade from WSS2 to WSS3 was a PITA!
  14. Yeah? Let me know how it goes if you get a chance to do it. I install eeexubuntu on one and tried a few wireless managers, none of which seemed suitable for a school/shared user environment. In the end I created a shortcut to a script, which stopped and restarted the wireless connection, before launching rdesktop.
  15. We run SIMS (for lesson monitor) via terminal services on the eee's, so speed is good. The only issues we tend to experience relate to the wireless manager included in the default Xandros OS deciding not to auto-connect the wireless network connection.
  16. I may have missed something, but even after Jan 09 you can still exercise the downgrade rights included in the Vista licence. As I understand it, if you're using an OEM's image, the OEM can install it if the customer requests it (at the OEM's discretion). Or if you're imaging the OS yourself, then you can do that as normal. No?
  17. Is there any pattern to the computers that you can't connect to? Which version are you running? Is the AB client service running on the affected clients? There was an issue with the AB client service stopping when the network connection was interrupted (v5.1, or v5.1.1 I think). This issue should have been resolved in 5.2.
  18. I have a per-computer only software restrictions policy which works fine on my desktops but doesn't seem to have any effect on my terminal servers. The terminal servers group has permission to read and apply the software restrictions policy. The terminal servers are in a TS OU, which has links to the software restrictions policy, among others. There are also some policies which are loopback (replace) linked for user environment config/settings. I've used the modelling wizard in GPMC to check that the settings are correct, which they are. The software restrictions policy wins. There are no other GPOs above it in the processing order with any comuter software restriction policies defined. I've also tried gpresult on the server, to confirm the software restriction policy is applied. I've tried a forced gpupdate on the server with reboot, but this hasn't helped. Any thoughts? Thanks.
  19. How did you get on with copier/card integration? Did you use the VCC unit as recommended by PaperCut? I'd be interested to hear how your implementation went.
  20. It is possible to make per-computer configuration changes with an MSI, in much the same way that you would for installing an application. Simply take your first snapshot, make the changes you wish your MSI to affect, then taking the second snapshot. For example, on a computer where users can rotate the screen, take the first snapshot, disable screen rotation, take second snapshot. It is theoretically possible to make per-user changes with an MSI, but I wouldn't recommend it. The MSI would have to run a repair for each user. You'd also need to have an advertised entry point in order for the per-user repair to take place. For per-user configuration that isn't directly associated with a particular application, stick with administrative templates (for GPO configuration), or logon scripts. If you are going to use MSIs to make per-computer configuration changes, then I'd recommend a separate MSI for each. I believe that Intel stored the "disable screen rotation" registry value in one key for several versions of the driver, then switched to a completely different key for a subsequent series of versions.
  21. I've got about 40 t5135 and haven't had a single problem with the keyboards/mouse units supplied with them.
  22. We are looking to implement an electronic registration and access entry system which is compatible with our existing mifare fobs, used with a different cashless catering system provider. The Easytrace solution seems to fit our requirements. Can Easytrace customers let me know what their experience of installation/use/administration of the system is like. Thanks.
  23. I use Wise Package Studio and find it much more useful than Wininstall LE and MaSaI (before it was acquired by script logic). As for the cost, I guess it depends how you define reasonable, but it certainly isn't cheap.
  24. Is it a good idea to be assisting a student (going by post content, the lack of any other posts) to circumvent the school's security?
  25. RM support (first line) should have pointed you in the direction of article TEC227858 (login is required). This issue is likely to have been caused by creating duplicate OUs in AD by connecting to one DC, creating the OU, then connecting to another DC and creating the same OU before the DCs have synch'd the first set of changes. The aforementioned article will guide you through deleting the duplicate entry in ADUC.
