We have it where it works for some students but not others. i've done all 3 things you've done as well except mine are deployed differently (under user preferences rather than computers)

I'm looking to do some further testing on Win 11 with a view to capture a reference image (which I usually do on a Hyper-V test VM) on a WS 2019 host. With Win 10 it was dead easy but Win 11 won't install on a Hyper-V VM from the ISO due to the system requirements message kicking me out. I have exactly the same problem although I completely uninstalled my V6 as the database was corrupted beyond repair so did a complete reinstall with a blank database. All my doors won’t connect to the new one despite being ticked in the config utility. They all say update pending. I’ve even dropped the power on a couple to see if it helps but it didn’t. Left it overnight and hoping when I go in tomorrow it’s worked otherwise I’m going to be doomed for Monday as all the doors are locked shut! Paxton didn’t know what the issue was when I rang them earlier. Did you have any joy?

We were doing something similar but we found that it wouldn't work for us as the doors with Paxton on have green PTE buttons on the inside and readers on the outside only. We are going to have to put entrysign terminals on the entrance and exit points as well as the Paxton kit.... Its going to cost a fortune

From a practical perspective, you tend to see businesses with many bespoke applications (and some schools) reluctantly upgrade their operating systems, usually as they approach end of life. Server 2008 and Windows 7 only really disappeared when Microsoft forced peoples hands and the same will be true of server 2012 and 2016. Personally, I needed to rebuild the server infrastructure when I arrived here and I did so with 2019 to future proof us. Plus, someone's gotta take the plunge to identify any bugs. Luckily, server 2019 is based loosely on 2016, there isn't a great deal of difference and I've had no issues (touch wood!). From an exam perspective, Microsoft had MCSAs for 2012 and 2016 but they've changed their entire certification tracks last year and as a result there isn't one for server 2019. It's all rolled into the MS azure content allegedly so if you want to certify in 2019 content then that's the way to go.

Watching this with interest as I'm about to replace our UPS solution. Think we are going to go for APC smart UPS and use powerchute to shut stuff down. I've been quoted for a UPS which will keep it ticking over for 20 mins which is enough time to get it all shut down properly. The cheaper one was 4 mins but by the time the VMs and cluster have powered down, you're cutting it fine with the hosts.

Hope everyone is keeping well! Just a quick question really about what everyone does for email signatures? Do you leave staff to do their own or do you standardise them? We standardise them currently and it's pretty much name, job title, school address and phone number (including extension) with the school logo on the left. Nothing special like social media links like some places etc. Staff request them and the my team create them. We have a Photoshop template that we just tinker with-- fill in the info and send it to the user with a guide on how to set an image as their email signature. It's time consuming though and as you know with teachers, they have about 10 job titles that change 10 times a year and extension numbers change with it so I want to streamline the process. I've seen a few solutions online but they're mega bucks. Just wanted to see what sort of stuff people do or what software they use, along with what they're paying? Any ideas please? Depends how big your school is and how big your team is. I'm in a MAT with a large secondary/sixth form and a small primary. There's myself (head of IT Services), senior tech and 2x junior techs. Each has a more restricted set of rights based on role and skill set. If you're asking because you want to get rid of password resets then you can use impero (if you have it) or a free alternative called password control (you need to do some permissions tweaks in AD to make it work). I have messed about setting up custom mmc's for certain users E. G exams staff before and delegated access to they can only see or amend bits that are relevant to them but I found the above solutions mycb easier and reliable to implement.

Sounds strange but it is actually a good thing if it breaks things. The domain Admin account shouldn't be used to authenticate services/apps for security reasons. If something breaks once you've changed the domain Admin password then you can use the opportunity to set up a dedicated service account.

What are people planning to do who use doddle? What alternatives are out there and what is peoples experience with them? We have an AHT who leads on doddle for our school and he's received this notification and claims that there's some functionality within doddle that other platforms don't have such as the PLCs. I don't know the ins and outs because I don't use it as a student or a teacher but just wanted to get some thoughts from people?

Only you know how proficient you are with networking. From what you've said, you have N+ which gives you a good foundation. You also said you have a couple of years experience as a techie. Does your network manager allow you access to the switches and if so, have you gained much experience configuring them? If the answer to either of those questions is no, then maybe you're better going for CCNA first. Either way, getting CCNA first will maximise your chances of doing well with CCNP, it certainly wouldn't be a waste of time.

Need to see what pro has that enterprise doesn't. We have OVS and are eligible for enterprise so I've never even given pro a 2nd thought but with someone saying pro workstation has all the crap removed, my ears have pricked up. I've got NTlite so it's not the end of the world either way
