Do you FSRM for this? Can you put an exception on a sub folder of their home drive?

Resurrecting this one as most here block executable files. Do your students use Visual Studio? How do you save project files when there are a number of exe files in there? Our Computing Teacher needs to use Visual Studio with the students but we only allow it in Virtualbox with a mapped home drive. The home drive is set up with fsrm to block the saving of exe files. I am unsure as to how to proceed with this as I don't want to restrict the teacher from using Visual Studio with the students.

Some further info on this. When you use Visual Studio and start a blank project without any content it already has some exe files in it. Students cannot save exe files to their home drives so have no way of building the project and saving it as they go. If they keep it in virtual box then they.lose it when they exit due to the immutable disks. Other Schools must be using Visual Studio in virtual box . How do you do it?

The whole point of G Suite is collaboration and student/teacher communications. It's more of a discipline/behaviour issue if they are sending inappropriate emails. Make an example of a couple of the students that did it and the rest will fall in line. There are settings in G Suite Admin Console that you can set to block & quarantine emails that contain inappropriate language.

Sorry but how is this disturbing the staff? Its not like students are phoning them at all hours. Dont want to be disturbed dont check your school emails after hours!

Did you just create a custom allow category or did you have to whitelist?

We only use Smoothwall for content filtering. Are you referring to using Smoothwall as a Firewall? Our Firewall is provided by LGfL.

I should clarify that this happens when using Chrome. We don't tend to use any other browsers.

Since we moved to the new UI for Gmail we are finding that it is sometimes unresponsive. An email comes in and you click on it but the view doesnt change to the new email. Sometimes moving from one email to another does not work. Reloading Gmail fixes the issue. Is it us or do others find the same?

The server was set up by an external company who are now gone. They never set up the IP for iDRAC access. I am not in a position to take the server down to set iDRAC up yet. Over the Christmas holidays maybe. There are spare slots available.

I have a Dell Server with a PERC H730 controller. The Data is held on a RAID10 array comprising of 4 x 1.2TB disks. Currently running low on space on these so I want to add additional drives to expand the RAID 10 array without losing any data. I have read conflicting articles on the web where some say expanding RAID 10 is not supported on the PERC series controllers without losing data and others saying it is now but wasn't previously. Has anyone done this?

We are currently looking into this too. We did it last year for a student and at that time EE were doing a 4GEE Wifi Mini for £89 that was loaded with 24GB data which was restricted to 2GB per month. That was a really good deal as we just purchased it outright and didnt have to worry about monthly payments. We need to get 2 more now and EE no longer do that deal. The other thing to think about is which network you use and the coverage in the area you want to use the Mifi device. Around here Vodafone signal is really bad indoors so there is no point looking at Vodafone Mifi devices.

Yes, you know they can and I know they can but I have been asked the question of can they save and then run the exe without going into VB.

They won't be able to run the exe once its renamed.

In Virtualbox we have the home drives mapped for students. This works well but for the fact that we run FSRM and stop exe files from being saved. When the students want to compile and save their VB stuff they cant save to their home drives as saving of exe files is blocked for obvious reasons. They can save their project files but not the compiled version. We are being asked to come up with a solution to this issue. What do you guys do? Is there a way to have a drive mapped in Virtualbox that the students normally dont have access to in Windows? I was thinking we could allow the saving of exe files in this mapped drive that then only appears in Virtualbox. Is that doable? Is that advisable?

Isn't the whole point of collaborators that they can edit the document? Use the preview as mentioned above to send to studenta so they can complete the form.

Definitely set the last key under the right path which is different to the others. The reason I set 2 groups was because it wasn't working for me with the "is not a member of" setting. I even tried setting Loop back processing on the Computer Group Policy but that didnt help either.

@gshaw - I have followed everything above and I did same as you, but set 2 groups (GrpRestrict & GrpUnrestrict). If you are a member of GrpRestrict then the registry settings are set to 1. If member of GrpUnrestrict then everything set to 0. Under Computer Configuration>Admin Templates>Windows Components>Bitlocker Drive Encryption I have ; Store Bitlocker Recovery Information in AD > Enabled Nothing else set at that level Inside Removable Data Drives do I need to set ; Deny Write access to drives not protected by Bitlocker to enabled ? Or do I leave it and let the Registry settings control that? If I enable it then Bitlocker is applied to all users regardless of group. If I Leave it un-configured then Bitlocker is not enforcred on anyone. My registry settings look exactly like yours, I have one to set it to 1 and then a corresponding one to set it to 0 depending in which group the user is in. I just cant seem to get it to work the way it should.

Google have team drives now so no need to create a user called "staff share" and share with staff. I hope it wasn't Google advocating that way? Thats not the right way to do it.

How do you deal with keeping permissions when backing up to Google Drive?

@Gongalong - Can you not use DNA Remote Control to do what you want? ie put the laptop at the front and use NetSupport Remote Control to connect to it?
