We had a power cut at xmas and since then we have had slow speed when under pressure. We have 1 to 1 computing so 1000 devices connected at once. We regularly get 30 devices plus on a single AP. Before xmas it was ok, not great but worked, if an AP was over subscribed it just slowed down. I'm currently experiencing slow speeds everywhere when under pressure. Not sure why. I've got no syslogs of concern on switches and the unifi controller looks ok. We are part of a new build so I'm keeping what we have going. I have 67 UAP-AC-Pro APs of differing ages. I'm using HP Edge switches and a older HPE 5800-24g core switch. New build is done in September so I've got 6 more months of trying to keep it working. I updated APs to 6.6.55.15189. I'm on an older version of the controller as I'm afraid to move it. I'm under the impression the controller sw version doesn't really change much. Something i've noticed when speeds are slow the web ui on the core switch is very slow. As its an older switch i'm struggling to assess the port utilization. Any pointers or things to try or look at are very welcome

Got it. If you go into a teams and schedule a meeting from the team it doesn't show as an option. If you go into calendar and schedule a meeting it does show. We'll just change our advise to teachers. Thanks

This is in a meeting not in teams in general. I've edited the title to clarify. Basically when you schedule a meeting then change the meeting settings you can no longer disable chat in the teams meeting.

There used to be an option in the meeting options where you could enable or disable chat in a team meeting. It has disappeared from the options. Some of our students are taking advantage of this and just using it to chat during teams lessons. Does anyone know why it disappeared or how to get it back?

Microsoft should automate it through sds, they have the parent details in there from Arbor. Maybe a future addition

Does anyone have any good ideas or even alternatives to allowing parents to access Sharepoint? We have a staff and student zone that is very populated. We were looking to do the same for parents to access a parent zone. It would have news, events. We're not aiming to push child details to them. I don't want to make the parent zone public we want them to sign in for security but i'm guessing the one way to do that is with them being added to azure as a guest.

Figured this one out almost. Its a switch i have routing half the site to the core. I'm currently rerouting to bypass it then will reboot and see if its figured it out. Its blocking data to certain vlans like they don't exist by they do. No errors and i can't spot the problem. Another issue of no address at all on a certain vlan was caused by me. I accidently turned off the dhcp relay for three vlans This is what happens when you don't use your brain for 2 weeks over xmas.

Just set a laptop with a static ip for one of the affected SSIDs and it can't ping anything. My other SSIDs are ok. Just the three student ones. I had intermittent connection this morning buts it now ground to a halt. Currently on 7.1.61.

Scope is reporting its ok and there's no events contradicting it in event viewer. If i set a device static it doesn't connect to anything. Just testing the same thing on a laptop rather than an iPad. I'm waiting for the best time to give the DHCP server a restart

I have a very odd issue after returning from xmas and i can't quite figure it out. I have an old unifi setup and have removed AD. I just have a server with DHCP and a bit of DNS on. I'm getting a new school built which we're moving into in Sept so I'm trying to keep what i have alive. My ssids link to VLAN then DHCP assigns addresses. Works or did lol. For staff, sixthform, IT and my staff BYOD, i've got no issues. connects without fails every location every AP. DHCP reflects this. I can ping DHCP from my APS. The issue is for my Chromebooks SSID and iPad SSIDS. i can't get ips on all devices. I just get 169 addresses. I get them in some locations and not others. I've traced through everything today and found no fault. No vlan missing from a switch. No errors. I'm starting to rule out a network issue completely. I think its DHCP but again can't see why. Any ideas on diag i might have not thought of. I had a hyper-v fail on the 27th Dec which wasn't rectified until yesterday. When i tested yesterday i didn't spot the issue but its only an issue for student devices. The thing thats annoying is i can go into W105 and connect to the ipad ssid without issue. But if i go down to W108 i can't connect. Both the APs are on the same switch same config. Also we have 1 to 1 computing which is 1000 student devices banging around the school. The fact the teachers and sixthformers are fine means i can't just switch it all off and on again and hope for the best. I'm trying to be tactical in my resets.

yes flag set. It must still be in beta if there is a flag to manually set. I can't spot anything in gsuite you can set

Has anyone got this new integration working on ChromeOS? Your Chromebook is getting native OneDrive integration in the Files app (Canary) (chromeunboxed.com) I'm on version 116 but when we open a word doc in the files app it just auto uploads the doc to onedrive and lets us edit it in the browser. An improvement but not exactly what i was expecting. I was under the impression it triggers option to add onedrive to the files app. Am i missing something or has something not happened yet in the OS?

Not at the moment. I need to just add in a second device that has DHCP setup more wisely. As long as you have a good backup of your DHCP scopes it easy to get DHCP working again if a devices fails. Same for DNS but to be honest there isn't much on the DNS i don't use it to name devices as most of our devices are named and managed in intune. I just have DNS to add some forwarding for our website and things i don't like remembering IPs for. Once you take AD out of the equation DNS and DHCP aren't as complicated

Print server we moved to Canon Uniflow. Canon are hard work but the uniflow print system is fantastic. I think other companies host uniflow now. DHCP and DNS we still just run on MS server of a little NUC. There are alternatives. DHCP on a modern core switch is quite good. There is a free one as well which i haven't bothered with yet as it involved reading https://sourceforge.net/projects/dhcp-dns-server/

We use it at a secondary. Very good app the difficulty is getting parents to use it which does take some time and promotion. We recently had a phone outage so parent couldn't ring in but they could use the study bugs app to log absence.

I have a fully serverless setup with 1:1 computing for all staff and students. Its a long process of moving bit by bit over time but worth it in the end in my opinion. I just have phones left to move then all I'll have is a desktop running a tiny bit of dns and salamander. We run 500+ iPad and 500+ Chromebooks. all staff have a 2 in 1 laptop and an iPad. I don't recommend running windows for students the lower priced devices just can't handle it. We use teams and sharepoint heavily for everything. Intune has improved massively since we started moving which was summer 2019. it was all scripts and compromise back then and now i'm struggling to keep up with the changes. We went serverless as it fits in what we aim to deliver. We have a full digital strategy and a full time employee who drives the sharepoint content and user training aspects. Most importantly our head is on board and drives the change from the top. Without the schools support i would only move the things that would help you operationally. Files to onedrive, department files to teams etc which will save you on server costs and backup costs. I highly recommend intune over SCCM especially now intune is working better but once you start dipping into intune you start needing A3. Then you don't need your AD anymore so you decide to remove it which means you need to change to a print system that uses cloud etc etc. you start a little chain reaction and end up in the cloud anyway. 1:1 devices are great for students 90% of them look after them better than the teachers look after their laptops. The other 10% can be controlled by good cases, screen protectors and form tutors helping imbed the message that they need to be looked after. We also do regular form checks on devices. We get a damaged device at least one a week but we've just learnt how to fix them. Once you know how replacing an iPad screen or an iPad LCD is easy and cheaper than you'd think.

We're a serverless school. I'm looking at replacement phone services and i think the MS solution sounds like a good fit at our school. I'm looking for schools who use it and some help moving to it. Should we do it in house or get a third party involved? We want to use physical phones in places but want to promote the soft console use with staff also.

I have A5 licensing and i'm looking into Teams phones to replace our current SIP solution. Any advice or guides you could share please. Thanks

Can anyone add some resources and details for the best method to join school in a trust? Should we be moving to a single central tenant or staying in our own tenants and joining to a central one using b2b and the cross-tenant sync stuff? The main limitations i can find on b2b is teams doesn't really work and groups don't sync. The main limitations i can find for a central tenant is the work in migrating to a central tenant. Would love some feedback from those that have already had to address such questions in an education enviroment. Thanks

We've managed to talk them down regarding data ports. We have them in the rooms but they're only providing switching for the stuff we need which is basically only the stuff in the ceiling for the wifi, cctv etc. They have said to me it's something under review for future builds but the fact of the matter is most schools they build want and request full on prem solutions. Even when they encourage them to build a more cloud friendly school they school itself pushes for servers and lots of data ports.

They're getting there lol i had to argue 4 full racks down to 2 and we only managed it as they had to add in two little cab rooms which weren't on the original drawings. I also have enough air con to save the icebergs, something i probably won't mock when its hot. The wifi they're putting in is a top notch aruba solution. To be fair anything would be better than what we have
