  1. I use a free program called terracopy to measure file speeds, Just get am image on the server, install it to the workstation and copy it.. ikt will show you the speed on the top bar. Then i just work my way back through the network, Different ports on the switch closest to the workstation, then if theres another switch after i try that etc, if its just the one machine different cables. I had this problem before xmas and it turned out it was plugged into a managed switch and someone fiddled with the settings on a particular port. Copy your files faster with TeraCopy
  2. I wouldnt mind a copy of this, Ive set a few joomla sites up for schools and would like to see how this package works
  3. I just scored myself a HTC Pro and its totally awesome, Ive had just about every iteration of HTC's phones from original XDA and this ones definately a marked improvement on all of them. After you apply the speed fixes touchFlo is pretty awesome and it feels like a well built solid handset.
  4. Living in Newcastle, working in primary schools in Jarrow and Hebburn
  5. If your savvy with web programming you could edit the login page instead of Username and password as form fields you could randomly generate a code to go on the end and use a different one every time the login page appears. One time you could get loginX73h33 With PasswordU7878 , if its different everytime the browser wont be able to store the details.
  6. Same here I usually break down into Staff Students >Intake 2002 >Intake 2003 Etc,
  7. Im not sure if im downloading the right file, the version i keep downloading says its a 14 day trial?
  8. All of our Year 6's here have Asus EEE 4g's they take them home and have a wireless point in the classroom. When they take them home they have T-Mobile dongles that go through a company called Synetrix which filters the access to unwanted sites. Its a pain the backside though, they're constantly having connection troubles and dropping the things.
  9. You can get a security screwdriver set from maplins for about £15 Has just about every weird and wonderfull screw configuration you could ever imagine with it. Definately worth a buy, i use mine to take down projectors with weird security bolts but should open your RMone
  10. My postcode says yes! I think ill be getting that in the morning!
  11. Chances are probably not, Retail XP home and OEM XP home which came with his machine have different codes
  12. If you look on an XP cd in teh support folder you should find a cab file called deploy, Extract that to c:\sysprep on the machine you want to sysprep. Then run the file setupmgr, you will then have a GUI screen you can create anser files and sysprep files from in a wizard.
  13. Try flush its DNS cache? ipconfig /flushdns From a cmd prompt
  14. They still sell it here... Microsoft Windows Media Center 2005 OEM - Aria Technology
  15. I Use Acronis snap deploy. Very easy, no need to sysprep. Just install your windows \ software boot to its nice PXE with graphical user interface and make an image. Boot the rest of the machines up with PXE and select deploy, they all then appear in the management console and a few clicks and your deploying. Automatically resets the SIDS, joins the network etc and can automatically number the machines for you
  16. Just set all of the Network options in virtual pc to "local only" , then give the server a static IP and activate DHCP on it if you want. The virtual machines will all then get DHCP and DNS from the server 2008 box and you can join them to each other that way.
  17. I don't know if your plasma is the same as mine but my home one had its AV channel shared with something else. I had to go into the options and set the AV channel (in my case AV4) to be expecting input from an RGB DSUB cable. Look in the options on your tv and see if you have something similar?
  18. Time wise it wasnt, the fact that id already had the thing apart ages before it went meant it was.
  19. Mine Red ringed and was out of warranty but is working fine now. I did the X-Clamp replacement off the internet, You can buy a set of screws for about £3 off ebay then all you need is a Torx screwdriver and some good heat sink paste. You basically take it apart, remove the x clamp from the board and clean the graphics and main processor. Using the new screws you then loosly fit the hs again and power your system up with the fan on the CPU only not the GPU so the gpu overheats. When its done you get 2 red rings, you then quickly tighten the bolts on the gpu up and reassemble. Mines worked fine for about a year since
  20. We have about 30 of the EEE 4g's here and they cause nothing but problems, The wireless doesnt work if you put a key in your router, they arent very sturdy we've killed 4 of them already. Have a look at Acer Aspire ones, ive tested a few and the build quality is far superior.
  21. When trying to use the resources you might have to physically type the names in, Try using the FQN of the devices on the network, So instead of "\\server1\printer" you would use "\\server1.\printer" Another neat trick is if you dont want to add the machine to the domain if you add the username \ password from the local machine to AD it with authenticate using that
  22. If your using server 2003 use micorosfts internet printing Look in add\remove windows components on your server under application sever and IIS, Enable that then your users just have to browse to /printers and you get a nice web page with a list of all the printers, queues, youc an click on a printer and select connect and your in buisness. I just create a shortcut on my users desktop which links directly there, as long as the printers are labelled and have locations assigned its easy to use then! (If you feel like showing off you can edit the page thats displayed with yoru own company \ school details if you wish)
  23. Weve had it for a few months, Interest has faigned a little bit but some kids still like to sit on it all the time, The biggest problem was the login, some of the younger ones couldnt remember them so I created a mini VB program and a AutoIT script which stored individuals usernames and password in their accounts and lets them automatically login from a link on the desktop
