I usually just get the machine from Dell then pick the licences up seperately. We use a company called Pheonix Software. They informed us taht if we bought Server 2008 we can install Server 2003 and still be licences. We do the same with office, Buy 2007 and install 2003

Ranger - can you block webpage content?
pagelad replied to Tony_Mc's topic in Internet Related/Filtering/Firewall
Could you use something like the openDNS schools DNS system to block sites? Comes for the best price i find.. free OpenDNS > Solutions > K-12 School -
What sites do you allow staff access but not students?
pagelad replied to b_m's topic in Internet Related/Filtering/Firewall
We mainly use the same filtering for staff and students. I used to be a bit more relaxed with staff accounts until after telling members of staff time and time again it is not allowed for students to use staff accounts some people just didnt think it was important. -

We have LTO2 Drives, you need a SCSI card for them though 200gb Uncompressed / 400 Compressed , fast as well. We used to use an Iomega REV drive which is wont reccoment, disk faulure on that was a nightmare!

We had 4G's last year and had a lot of trouble with the wireless on them, we couldnt connect it to a point that had an encryption key. In the end i got them a dedicated one with MAC control and just banned everything apart from my Eee's. Next year i dont think we are buying the same again, we looked at the Dell and i think weve made a decision on getting some Acer Aspire One

Ususally in mine the head or the ICT co-ordinator say "we want to do X" then they speak to me (Technician) i explain what they need and usually reccomend a supplier and a specific product. Very rarely do other people purchase things as they usually waste money on crap!

Nope, We found a company a few weeks ago and they have installed 3 for me this month. You do have to be pretty competitive though, Weve been paying £580 for a new projector , moving the existing pole and fitting a new mounting bracket. Thats with a 3 year bulb warranty and a 3 year "move" warranty where we can call them to move it to another location no questions once within 3 years.
-
if its an approved company we can buy from them straight away, If it isnt though we generally have to get quotes from 3 sources and then go from there. Ive never hired someone for something really big though,

Can i get a look at that GPO please?

Isnt Alienware just Dell now? Some of the specs on the XPS systems they do are pretty smart. Ive had some success with these guys iBUILD Intel SLi Gaming PC Performance | Power Computing | Custom PCs, Gaming PCs, Laptops, Motherboards, Workstations Good prices and awesome build quality \ components
-
Ill second this, in my previous job i ordered loads of workstations from them and they were all pretty good quality. Where did you get your Dell prices from by the way? Does your LEA have an account with them in the schools team? Or did you just use the online prices?

Did you connect to the printer using the server based share UNC \\server\printer or did you connect to the printer directly by its IP? If your doing it via IP you will need to check the security on the actual printers software, the security rules applied you mentioned only apply to connections being attempted via the server share

Awesome, ill give this a go tommorow been hunting on appdeploy all day for something about it!
