  1. I'm afraid not, if the app was downloaded with an apple ID at some point in the past it will download an old version so we just did this manually for the ipads.
  2. It's a bit of a botch but we just use a GPO to rename C:\Program Files (x86)\Adobe\Adobe Creative Cloud\ACC\Creative Cloud.exe to Creative Cloud X.exe and then the shortcut in our redirected startmenu points to the newly named exe for the off chance somebody wants to use it. No problems so far with this method
  3. can you post your latest xml?
  4. For file explorer I just have a shortcut to Explorer.exe To have the two groups appear vertically change row value, changing the collum will change where it appears horizontally
  5. Name it "Default User.v6" and take out the AD profile bit - you don't need to configure anything it will just pick it up
  6. Just got our logon times down from 2 minutes to 25 seconds, 40 seconds on the crusty old machines. Thanks
  7. Welcome to the world of windows 10. I tried with this for a while but ended up writing the XML myself. We use DesktopApplicationLinkPath to point to a .lnk file in the redirected start menu folder. We only use DesktopApplicationID for linking to the network drives:
  8. xmlns="http://schemas.microsoft.com/Start/2014/LayoutModification" xmlns:defaultlayout="http://schemas.microsoft.com/Start/2014/FullDefaultLayout" xmlns:start="http://schemas.microsoft.com/Start/2014/StartLayout" xmlns:taskbar="http://schemas.microsoft.com/Start/2014/TaskbarLayout" Version="1"> Give this a try
  9. In startmenu$ everything should be in a folder called "Programs" and then you can create everything in that folder including other folders. The folders can only go one level deep
  10. You can copy drivers off the machine using Double Driver and then add the drivers to your deployment, then they will install to any other machines that need the driver
  11. It definitely sounds like drivers, had this on a few older machines. Best bet is to remote on to the machine with MSTSC or Impero and then find and install the drivers. Once you have the correct drivers you should be able to add them to the deployment so they are installed automatically.
  12. We have it working now, not sure what I changed it just seemed to start working. I would go through everything and double check, check permissions and check the shares are accessible etc. Within the share you will need a folder called Programs, and then all of your shortcuts in there. Only .lnk and .url files will show up in your redirected start menu and any folders within folders will not show up. For example if you have an ICT folder with shortcuts in they will show properly on the start menu but if you have ICT>Media the Media folder won't show up and neither will any shortcuts inside.
  13. Hi, Does anybody know of a way to customise the shortcuts on the left of the startmenu? We currently have folder redirection set up and it appears to be working fine for documents and pictures folder etc however the shortcuts in the start menu are trying to open the local profile documents. If someone knows of a way to make them open the correct redirected documents folder I would be very grateful Thanks
  14. We always use the built in windows media player for DVDs, VLC for anything else. Feels like DVDs have had issues for a while now, not sure if it's drive support or just crappy drives being put in machines since they're rarely used now but I've found them to be very unreliable for a few years now. It can be really stressful if we get a listening exam dropped on us last minute where they want to use a disc. We avoid them as much as possible and will always rip the disc or download a digital version where possible
  15. We had an issue with this (xml not applying) this registry policy sorted it, applied to W10 machines.
  16. Fair enough, it's very consistent for us, I can't think of a single instance of a printer not being added on a machine so thought I'd offer it as a suggestion
  17. The computer OU. IT Suites get their own OU with the gpo applied, the rest of the printer GPOs are applied to the workstations OU and then we use security filtering to make sure it only goes to the correct machines.
  18. We use Computer Policies > Windows Settings > Deployed Printers to deploy our printers to the machines rather than users. Never had any issues across 7 or 10 with this. We are currently on LTSC 1809 and it is working nicely.
  19. Hi, We are currently rebuilding a few old iPads, we only have 12 so we are just using apple configurator. The iPads won't update to any later than iOS 9.3.5 and apple configurator 2 seems to only download the latest versions of the apps which are incompatible. Does anybody know know where I can download old iOS apps that can be deployed with configurator 2? Thanks
  20. Sorry I meant file associations. Are you storing the file in a share where students can access it to read the associations? I had a similar issue a while back where they didn't have access and so they just got the defaults
  21. Do students have read access to the file associations txt file?
  22. Just off the top of my head (it's still early & I have a headache) it sounds like it might be the Realtek driver software trying to run. I'm sure there is a policy to allow certain software to always run as admin so you could try there. I can't think of anything else to do with audio that might require elevation
  23. There is a GPO to hide common programs which seems to get rid of everything except Settings and Search for us. User Configuration > Administrative Templates > Start Menu and Taskbar > Remove All Common Program Groups From Start Menu
  24. Thanks again for your replies, still no joy unfortuantely with even the most lenient of permissions
  25. What are the permissions like on the share and on the folders? Clutching at straws here
