If the Sun system falls into a price point that is not affordable then I would suggest considering Overland Storage, this does have less functionality than Sun but all that functionality may not be needed. It should also be much cheaper dependandt again on what is needed. They also have some promotions at the moment on N2000 Snap Servers giving 8TB for the price of 4TB so may help you to double the capacity for FREE. Overland Storage: Effortless data management and data protection solutions Happy to discuss when this with you if you have the time. EduGeek at the Ruckus Big Dogs Conference in Marbella
MarkPower replied to Dos_Box's topic in Legacy CMS Comments
It was great to have you out there and I really enjoyed the company, I agree it was a valuable understanding for Ruckus on how the UK performs and what the Education market is like. You neeed to come again next year for more than just the conference, you are the only one that can sniff out a decent steak house, coz I cant take much more of the hairy bearded prawns and dolphin parts -
Hi James Many thanks for the kind words, I am glad our service reflected what we promised. We have enjoyed working with you and look forward to working with you again in the future. Juts a note to say that at your old school have just received a delivery of an addtional 14 access points, so the role out is happening :-) Cheers Mark

If using 802.11g then 30 - 35 clients could be connecting using Ruckus as long as the encryption is set to AES and not TKIP, this can be an unmanaged AP and then a controller could be added later to make this into a managed device with multiple AP's being used. Ruckus use beamforming, which mitigates sources of interference which in turn keeps a signal to noise ratio (SNR) at a gain for clients connections resulting in much more reliable concurrent client connections. If you can stretch to an 802.11n device then you could increase the performance although if you are using 10/100 switches you would experience a bottle neck at 100Mb. If you wanted to test an AP then PM me and I can arrange for one to be sent out for a few days if it would help. Cheers Mark

Hi Matt are you able to post any logs from the ZD? Have a look at the client logs at the time the disconnect happens. Thanks Stuart EDIT:: Under Marks profile for some reason

Echoed by Net-Ctrl a really big thanks to the Edugeek team for making us feel so welcome again this year and for running another great stand. We would also like to thank anyone that took extra time after eating the free pizza with Edugeek to visit the Net-Ctrl stand and discuss the solutions we had on display. Role on Bett 2011

Congratulations buddy

Ruckus have today announced that they have not finalised the new promotions for the first quarter of 2010 so they have said they will allow the following. The Buy 1 Get 1 Free offer based on a requirement to purchase a minimum of 20 Access Points and ZoneDirector 1025 with 3 years maintenance on both until the new promotion is anounced later this month. To qualify we would need to register your deal with Ruckus asap and they would then allow a 30 day period to make the purchase. Let me know if we can help you to make a great saving on Ruckus. All the best Mark

Can certainly offer you the chance to look at Ruckus on the Edugeek stand with Server in a Box or on the Net-Ctrl stand K1. We will be launching our NEW Physical Sercurity Section with the only 360 degree hemespheric camera on display at Bett 2010 along with a few other treats Physical Security Also once the pizza is all gone on the edugeek stand then you will need a coffee so strole over and we will look after you.

Sorry I can't offer help on surveying based around Cisco as we only survey with Ruckus due to our commitment to the vendor and solution due to the on going success we have had with the product. I can advise that unfortunatly you are unable to add Ruckus into your existing Cisco system, the product will only work as a FAT AP or controlled through it's own managment device (ZoneDirector) Yes there are upgrade programs against installed Cisco infrastructure being replaced with Ruckus, but I understand why this is not possible after only recently spending on your current product. If you want to have a go at surveying for black spots in your school then I would suggest a spend of $200 on WiSPY this provides a spectrum analyser which would aid you plenty. Cheers Mark

Hi There We have sold/sold and installed Ruckus into over 70 schools now in the last 8 - 12 months and have great experince in this solution, we are also the only Gold Partner of Ruckus in Europe which is the highest accreditation you can achieve so we can deffinatly help with your needs. First we need to address the below I was planning to put in cat5 cables to several of our classrooms this summer, but it looks like it is going to be too expensive now. How realistic an alternative is 802.11n Ruckus? You may find that the cost of cat5 is still cheaper than the purchase of a wireless solution, this is dependant on the coverage required and the location of the points, sure if you only need one or two access points and a managment system then yes price will be low, equaly using the 11n solution increases the cost against using 11b/g. Are your devices 11n capable or is this a future planning, if so for a % more 802.11n dual band is always worth considering, this will allow you to use the 2.4GHz and 5GHz spectrum. If I have a handful of desktop machines each logging onto our domain (maybe 5 per ap), can I expect the performance to be decent. The signal would be passing through a maximum of one thin wall. 5 clients per access point is really low and is nothing to even worry about, Ruckus under the 11b/g and 11n is capable of managing upto 100 clients per AP however bring that back to a working situation 30-60 is more realistic, remeber you can only give away what your bandwidth will allow. 802.11n dual band on the other hand can handle over 200 clients across both the spectrums, again bring the numbers to around 70 on each. This is more designed for a dense deployment but is great for furtue proofing. My other question for any Ruckus users out there relates to a situation whereby some users are connecting via 802.11g and others via 802.11n, does the system slow to accomodate those on 802.11g? I know you have asked for users experience here however while you wait for an answer I just wanted to explain why you will not see a performance drop based around 11n and 11g, I have taken a snippet from a Tender consiting of 65 x 802.11n dual band access points we have just installed. Technology Break Down • BeamFlex – A multi-element smart antenna system allowing the AP to provide optimal RF signal coverage to each of the connected clients therefore guaranteeing the best Wi-Fi signal and performance at any time. It can also attenuate interference from other devices (AP’s, clients, non-Wi-FI sources) thus ensuring the best possible receive sensitivity. • SmartCast - This provides a Quality of Service (QoS) allowing for classification and prioritisation of traffic, thus ensuring predictable traffic delivery on a per client/application basis. • SmartSec – The allows for users to dynamically generate a unique pre-shared key per device, plus users role based access, wireless client isolation, L2-L4 ACL’s, rogue device detection and other security features. • SmartMesh – Reliable Wireless meshing that provides the ability to deploy and extend wireless networks without the need to data cable every AP. BeamFlex and SmartCast are the key areas that help answer your question. I'd be interested in hearing from those of you have got it hear how you are getting on. I have many written case studies which I can share with you and clients that will be more than happy to talk to you about this solution if required. I underastand this is early stages for you so have a look around at what others say and should you need more info just let me know, you wont get a shock on price as it is very competative based on othe solutions, but the key thing is lets see if you do really need the kit and then work on the most proffesional route to making it work for you if it's required. Sorry for the lengthy reply but I think it will be helpful Kind Regards Mark Power Wireless Security Specialist 07525 785 278 01473 281211 [email protected] Enterprise Security Solutions | Network Security Consultants

Dom the licence upgrade can be through once an order is placed between 7 and 14 days, however in the new version 8 Ruckus can be informed and they will activate the 30 day eval license enabling you to start pluggin in the access points from the day they are delivered, then you just input the new license code once it is processed by Ruckus and sent to you. Cheers Mark

Yes you ate correct the Ruckus chipset is Atheros and again is the same as Cisco, Trapeze etc, the only difference which is the big one.....Ruckus have written the patented technology for the beam forming which is all done on top of the chipset enabling them to corner the market with something very different and very succesful.
