  1. Was in ATL but now in NEU after merger. I really liked ATL and they were great when my colleague and me needed them during redundancies. Not sure about NEU as I haven't needed them yet but they seem much more teacher focused than ATL.
  2. +1 for https://www.advanced-ip-scanner.com
  3. I have no experience of Smoothwall but I would steer well clear of Netsweeper. We had it forced on us by our LA after using Lightspeed for many years (and being very happy with it). Loads of issues and still have, Radius not working, the filtering itself still not working correctly (they blamed a GPO for this!!!). You can't speak to Netsweeper directly for tech support, they hide behind their main customer. Lightspeed used to be very open and very helpful with excellent customer support. All this of course is just my opinion.
  4. Same as @MicrodigitUK. We use Groupcall XOD so you have total control of the data you are passing across and can cancel at anytime. Works well. Groupcall help is usually really good so I'm surprised they haven't answered your question.
  5. Bit of a long shot but are they all connected to the same switch. I get it now and again and re-booting the switch sorts it.
  6. 650 pupil high school 15 VMS 500 devices Just me. There used to be 2 of us but one position was chopped 3 years ago during redundancies. I think they are just realising that trying to wind IT down was a bit of a mistake!
  7. +1 for Hue. No problems at all. We had problems with ipevo, wavy lines on the display whereas Hue were perfect on the same machines.
  8. As above, just change the language to English International in VLSC before downloading.
  9. Having used Lightspeed and Netsweeper, I would recommend Lightspeed. Not sure on costs though as they were bundled with our LEA package.
  10. What kind of adaptor is it in the laptop? A few years back I had terrible trouble with Atheros adaptors. I had to find a very specific driver release that fixed a similar issue. I was at the point of buying small usb wifi adaptors before I found the fix.
  11. I've noticed this as well. It seems to be if you are logged into multiple O365 accounts on the same PC in different browsers. Gave up with it the end (apologies I know that isn't helpful) and used chrome and IE.
  12. I'm the same. We were paying £3K a year for 70 FTE on a 3 year deal but have now been quoted £4K a year. I checked on here with my fellow Edugeekers and they tell me this is about right. I had 2 quotes more or less the same and I'm waiting on a 3rd.
  13. Same here, we use local profiles. These work fine until you delete the profiles (which we have to do on pupil machines), the next time the same pupil logs into the machine sometimes the apps work and sometimes they don't. Tried for hours to fix (many hours googling) but gave up and did the same as @2097.
  14. Thanks, already done this one. Its when the path displays in the explorer bar that I can't fix. They can click back to network. I've got around it by removing my network shortcut.
  15. Our OVS licencing is up for renewal soon (was a 3 year agreement) and I'm having problems getting clear answers on pricing and what is included on new quotes. We have been paying £3K a year for the last 3 years. I've had 2 quotes so far, one for just over £4K a year and another for just over £14k for 3 years. Both have asked how many staff over 200 hours a year are in school (we have 70) and based the quote on that. When I ask if the agreement covers all versions of W10 (EDU, PRO, LTSC etc) and office they don't seem know (yes I think so isn't good enough). Can anyone give me a rough figure of what we should be paying and what is included in an OVS subscription. School won't be too please if I get this wrong!
  16. I was ordered in by SLT. Locked myself in a room (as in my opinion social distancing is not being observed in school) and re-imaged our entire laptop stock. Don't think for one minute that we will get much of it back.
  17. In the end I added the shortcuts to the startmenu and removed the network shortcut. I'll give the firewall solution a try next time I'm in the office. Many thanks for the replies.
  18. Hi, I've got exactly the same issue and was wondering if you found a solution to this. Many thanks.
  19. I have a "my programs tile" in W10 startmenu that contains shortcuts to programs on the network. This works well (or so I thought) until I noticed one of the kids clicking back though the path on the explorer bar to "Network", this then does a network scan and lists all devices (computers, printers etc). I thought it would be and easy fix (but was wrong!), so far I have tried: 1 Setting turn on mapper and responder to disabled 2 Maximum number of active directory searches = 0 3 No computers near me in network location to enabled 4 I got rid of the network locations icon so that's ok 5 And others I have probably forgotten to mention The network is secure but I'd rather the kids didn't see a list of devices. It's driving me nuts, any help gratefully appreciated!
  20. Two and a half days and the policy has applied! Thanks again @Driftingashore and @forkies for your help, much appreciated.
  21. @Driftingashore - that's exactly what I'm after. I'll give it more time. Thanks again.
  22. I've created a new messaging policy with chat turned off. I've then applied the policy to the test student and nothing has happened yet (must be over 24 hours now). Can I double check that this would not remove the chat icon but would disable chat?
  23. Yesterday but can't just remember what time. I'll give it more time. Many thanks.
  24. We are just looking at Teams in school and I'm looking to block private chat. I've created a new messaging policy for students in the Teams Admin console with chat turned off. I've then applied this to a test user to see if the chat icon disappears from the left hand side. Unfortunately it doesn't, I was wondering if I'm missing something really obvious. I've done much googling and they all off the same solution so it must be me!
