Hello, Our new director of music has asked if we can default the "Audio Engine Options" -> "Audio Interface" to WASAPI (because the default has a delay between pressing keys on the musical keyboard and stuff happening, WASAPI doesn't) but can't see a way to do it. Setting it as an admin doesn't change it for any other users. Does anybody have any clue if it's even possible? It's this screen: Thanks

Yeah, but it's a bit of a faff - dynamic group for "if the version is less than (whatever the latest is, you have to find this out yourself)" with a task for "install the update". They said it's meant to be better in the new console which may or may not be out yet. No idea who we get ours from as it's done at the trust level, wouldn't be surprised if it was direct with ESET as we've got a 20,000 PC licence. But as others have said, I've never had a PC crawling and gone in task manager to see eset on 99% CPU... unlike what SAVservice.exe used to do in Sophos land.

Also moved from Sophos to ESET. Only thing I don't really like about it so far is that it won't auto update the clients (with the software update, the AV definition updates happen automatically).

We prefix all devices with a unique 3 letter school code (usually just the school's initials), but we're on our own separate domains within the trust AD forest so there aren't username conflicts.

Also where I've had a loop before it was so demanding on the switch I couldn't even connect to its management interface, easily told me which switch was causing the problem. Admittedly it was about 10 years ago on an old 3com 4400 stack.

Every room has a PC, IWB, projector and speakers. In the primary they also have an ipad per teacher and we've got AirServer (almost) installed (when I get time to set it up properly). Everybody prints to a copier hooked up to Papercut MF. The cables for the projector etc come out of the wall and over to the PC as what someone described as "an umbilical cord" - there's no faceplate or anywhere that cables can be unplugged on the wall (apart from power and network). Edit: We used to have laptops plugged into projectors (only had a couple of IWBs back then) but the VGA faceplates were forever getting damaged. Loads easier now.

It's just showing replacement needed quite recently so would probably be fine if there's a way to trick it into thinking it's been replaced. (It's got a battery in at the moment)

What size do you need anyway? Think these are 1500-2000VA.

I've got some but need new batteries, can't remember the model but they're 2U APC ones, will have to check tomorrow - free if you can collect. If it's the same battery as your broken one and your battery is fine it'd be a nice cheap fix.

If you're using dynamic VLAN you will probably need to update the firmware on all the APs too if they've been in a warehouse for a while - when I put mine in last year I spent ages trying to get it to work before discovering it's a relatively recent thing on Ubiquiti, firmware update later and it just worked perfectly.

Assigning groups to VLANs is done on your RADIUS server, not the controller - all you do on the controller is tell it you're using a dynamically assigned VLAN for that SSID. Edit: If you are using Windows for RADIUS: in NPS -> Policies -> Network Policies, add one per group with the condition set to "Machine Groups" or "User Groups" (depending on how you are doing it), then in Settings set Tunnel-Medium-Type to 802, Tunnel-Type to VLAN, Tunnel-Pvt-Group-ID to the VLAN number

Have you tried deleting the profile folder on the server? (don't just empty their folder, delete it completely - or if you want to be able to rescue items out of it then just rename it, I usually rename to _username). Then make sure they're not logged on and delete the local cached profile off the machine. The next time they log on they'll get a fresh profile, then when they log off it should save back to the server with whatever permissions it deems "correct".

We pay about £26 a cartridge for our HP 400 (the colour laser version), from Computer Lines UK ([email protected] - don't bother looking at the prices on the website as they're loads more than you ever actually pay).

If it's an onsite PBX then that's rubbish, we have 8 SIP channels, 70 handsets and all of them use the bundled minutes (our bill for calls last month was £2, somebody must have dialled an 0845). Sounds like you need a better supplier. (If it's a cloud PBX then no idea.)

You also don't have to order online if you've got a finance system which bans that... we just email purchase orders to their sales@ address and the box arrives the next day (or for urgent things it's a 20 min drive to pick it up... maybe less of an option as you're in London)

Pretty sure I've told this before... probably in the "what do you admit to" thread. It was about 2006 and we only had projectors and computers in the 3 IT rooms. We bought 8 laptops and 8 projectors to create one kit per department (some shared). We did 3 lots of training on how to connect it up/use it/pack it away, at the end of the third one I picked up the laptop bag not realising I'd forgotten to velcro the strap down and zip it up - so laptop came out, slid along desk and hit the wall. Screen was pretty much destroyed. It went back "damaged in transit".... unfortunately they had gone end of line by then so the replacement was a different model i.e. different drivers.

We went about it a different way, while we still get missing remotes it's nowhere near as bad as before. Instead of one remote per room we bought a load of extras to have one remote per teacher, that way have to look after them as they are "theirs" rather than them being "the room's". (Helps that the majority of our projectors are the same remote model) We have much more problems with IWB pens vanishing, especially the old orange ones that we can't get hold of any more. Not sure what happens when we've gone through our stock of them.

1. Don't know, we replaced "one AP per 2 rooms" HP access points with 1 per room Unifi AC Pro. With the HP people complained about the wireless daily, now they don't. 2. APs. Controller runs on a VM unless you want to get the "cloud key" (actually a small device that sits on your network and runs the controller), not sure how many APs it can support but it's designed for smaller networks where they can't just throw up a new VM. 3. No ongoing costs 4. Got mine from Complete IT, think they beat Comms Express by a few hundred quid on the order for 21 APs. Edit: Actually XMA had a decent price too.

We've found that half our Paxton readers like the 125KHz cards we use for the till systems and half don't see them... random though, the readers can be installed at the same time, in the same batch, and only some like them. Means we're stuck with the £4 a go cards for staff, and pupils just have to use the keypad to enter a code.
