  1. not sure yet, pirates is just too boring and vikings have been done almost every year. so we want something interesting. Might get some body paint and so super heros or something... not wearing costumes, it'll be far to hot! if we had that we'd need a super hero flag, perhaps the batman lamp signal sign
  2. the camp i'll stay with will blatantly have a gimic, so might just have something based around that!
  3. Background information so you know where I stand: I've been thrown in the deep end with managing a Mac network, having no education with Macs, no training, no nothing. I've learn't enough about Windows Servers at college, and one course on Windows Server Administration and about 7 months actually using what I learn't in practice, and only 3 weeks with actually being able to use Windows Servers, rather than watching. I've been managing the whole Mac network (Xserve on 10.5 with 50-60 iMacs also 10.5) for as long as I've been in this job (about 9-10 months). The line manager gave me an iMac and told me to play and find out everything, which I did and thought I done well considering I had never used a Mac before. Watched a Mac professional set up the Xserve and give a rough understanding on how to do network shares and basic application permissions. Also used a huge number of manuals downloaded from the internet about a number of things. I've put in a request for Mac training but due to the time of year it seems a while away for now. The Problem / Request: Myself and the art department have been pulling our hair out because of applications not being allowed to run for some staff, however it works for other staff in the same department. If I allow it for the one member of staff its not working, it will stop working for another member of staff. But its only one of the three at a time (Not one not allowed, two allowed changing to Two not allowed, one allowed) therefore making me think its not a problem with the group settings. I add permissions for a Staff OD Group, in which all the staff are members of, I have checked. I added in the application by using Sever Admin Tools Workgroup Manager on the client, dragging and dropping the application into the Applications Pane. If they request to be signed, I sign them. I have had problems with Keychain Minder, Smart Tools 10, Microsoft Office and HP All in one Scanner / Printer software. This is just is a start of the list. I would love to know if I am adding in permissions correctly, or if there is another way? I would love to know why there is always one member of staff not allowed to use something? I would love to know how permissions work? I would love to know about this application signing? I would love more documentation on setting permissions and using workgroup manager? Many thanks in advance.

  16. search for the machine with that name in WGM and edit the IP Address, or the Mac address would be a better option as it doesn't change, to match the machine your trying to link it to?
  17. Remember, never to do stuff in the background
  18. on the client, ensure it is connected to your server using the Directory Utility, found in the utilities folder in applications. If it isn't I would add it in there. On the server in Workgroup Manager, I'm guessing you have set the policies to a group? If so, Add the machine manually by clicking on the machine button above the search box (looks like a square box), click on new computer at the top of the screen. Add the machine name, the select the network tab and put the IP Address in related box. Then in the machine groups, add the machine into the group by selecting a group, select the Members tab, and click on the add button. Drag and drop the machine into the group. Hope this is abit of help
  19. Front break first? I ride a push bike, and this is a killer if you do the front first. Is this different on a motorbike?

  23. Wireless Router with 3 Pcs. two laptops and an archos tablet. Been thinking of building me a watercooled pc (as some of you know) and turning my PC into a File Server. The router is thrown out the window on a regular basis, due to it being a D-Link and rather useless.
  24. Your DC isn't set to mixed mode? So it thinks all your pc's are on XP and anything below won't work?
  25. This is the method we use on the server, I wouldn't be sure how to do it on a stand alone machine. If you need it for a stand alone machine I could look into it for you You can do it for single user as well, however its more effort picking out the users from the list. This process is done on a client and connected to the Xserve machine using Workgroup Manager from the Server Admin Tools download. Connect to the server you want to share and the navigate to the folder you want to share, whether it is Windows or Apple. Open the Finder Preferences and ensure the Connected Servers check box is ticked. The connected server will show on the desktop. Open Workgroup Manager from Server Admin Tools and navigate to the group or user's preference panel. Choose the Dock from the preferences dashboard. Drag and drop the shared server, which should be showing on the desktop, into the Documents and Folders section in Workgroup Manager. Click save and your away.
