Windows 8 Enterprise in availible to Technet Customers.... :-)
-
Hi Badaz52; The setup seems to be something of a school that I worked at some years ago... :-) one parent and two child domains, nope there is probably no reason why one single domain wouldnt suffice now - I also cannot see why you couldnt just migrate the accounts into the parent domain. Personally I'd also look at taking the Exchange Orginsation to 2010 as this will bring many benefits :-) at the last school as I was at we migrated to Windows 2008 and Exchange 2010 and Sharepoint 2010 using virtual servers.

towen replied to irsprint's topic in Windows Server 2008 R2
Oh - So what will happen to those who have Servers that are only 32bit... I assume they will have to stay with Windows 2008... No Win2k8 R2 for them... -

towen replied to irsprint's topic in Windows Server 2008 R2
Hopefully Windows 2008 R2 will be posted on Technet tommorrow -although I have downloaded the 64bit version from the Volume License Site - As there doesn't seem to be a 32bit availible yet... -

Providing Internet Access for Apple MACs
towen posted a topic in Internet Related/Filtering/Firewall
We have 6 Apple I-MACs; and I've been asked to provide them with internet access. Currently the MACs are setup as stand alone; with no authentication provider (i.e. no link to MS AD) We use a ISA Server and Websense for filtering on our Windows network but the Server requires authentication for internet access and when a MAC is restricted it does not ask to provide a username and password. Just wondering if there is an easier way of providing filtered internet access to our MACs ? If anyone has cracked this already can you provide details on how you have done this.. -
If its a Volume License your after Try http://licensing.microsoft.com or Alternatively if its an MS eOpen Key try: https://eopen.microsoft.com Hope this helps...

I bet it was quite expensive

I used Bromcom at my previous school; I thought that lesson registration marks could be sent back to SIMS via BRODIS - if my memory servers me correctly I think there is an option for this just like the AM\PM Marks... Perhaps worth a chat with Bromcom Helpdesk...

Mostly corupting users roaming profiles and leaving half a profile on a workstation... need I go on We've started with the first release of Symantec Endpoint Protection Suite some nearly a year ago and we upgraded to MR4 just before christmas... still having issues though Hence now we are looking at switching to another Anti-Virus Product to replace it.. Looks like Sophos is a no go aswell; going on the views...
-
Aaah OK -Thanks; we have issues with roaming profiles and Symantec
-
OKay - We have the removal tool from Symantec after our last spate of problems! We will give that a run and try re-installing the MR4 Client We only have the Antivirus and AntiSpyware bits running as like you've found - it requires alot of fiddling with! Incidentally what issues if any have you had with Symantec Endpoint?
-
Hi Teejay; Yeah we have upgraded to MR4 - Rolled out too clients also - Still having problems with it... (Issues relate to Roaming profiles!) When you went to MR4 did you do a complete un-install of the product on all of your workstations? If so how did you achieve this?
-
We currently run Symantec Endpoint Protection Suite here; we are looking at replacing it with a different product as our license is due for renewal and we are having numerous problems with it... I would appreciate views on any anti-virus products... with a rating our of 10 if possible... (1 being high and 10 being low)

Merry Christmas fellow Edugeekers! Have a good one...!

We have approx 30+ of the HP nx6110; weve had quite a few laptops which have experienced the same problems you experienced. If you move the laptop around they start working - intresting eh! I spoke to HP about this - they are aware of the issue but the repair would resort in a replacement motherboard - Ours were all on a 1 year warranty and when the issues started happening the laptops were just out of warranty - Just our look! We have started to replace them...

... Like with any system the key to success is in planning & training. I worked with Bromcom eMarkbook at my previous school and I believe that it had some nice features, and it could be setup and customised and setup to the inndividual schoool requirements! Like with all assesment tracking tools; they have to be customised by the school. To this end the system is only as good as its end users!

When I took the A+ Certification Exams in 2003, I wasn't allowed to take anything into the exam room, other than the 2 sheets of paper and a pen to make notes (this was supplied by the testing centre) All online technical exams that I have taken in the past (Microsoft etc) have all been the same, although most testing sites now supply you with an erasable A4 whiteboard and pen. Hope this helps...

Over the past couple of weeks we've been having numerous problems with corrupt profiles. After a bit of investigation, we believe that that this issue is related to Symantec Antivirus... Has anyone else had any problems with this corrupting profiles. We are currently using version 10.1.4.4000 of Symantec AV If anyone can advise I'd greatly appreciate it

Thanks for information, We currently use Windows 2003 SR2 and ISA 2004 Standard for our Web Proxy Server and our Mail Server is also Windows 2003 SR2 with Exchange 2003. Currently looking at the Websense Package for filtering... Looks like they are using the e-Mail fitering product from SurfControl and Websense for Web filtering. Anyone any good/bad experiences of these products? Will look Smoothwall tommorrow...
-
We are looking at re-visting what filtering software we use; Just wondering what products other schools use to filter web traffic and e-mail traffiic? Currently we use SurfControl (Now owned by Websense) for web-filtering

Were currently looking at a product to filter emails for content\virus\spam etc We run Microsoft Exchange Server 2003 and would ideally want a product that links in with this. Just wondering what products people are using to filter e-mails...
